About Expert Institute

Expert Institute is the #1 technology platform connecting litigation attorneys with expert witnesses, operating in a multi-billion-dollar market with <5% share today. Our core clients are personal injury and medical malpractice law firms, and our mission is to help deliver justice for people and families facing the aftermath of catastrophic harm. We’re a private equity backed subscription business with recurring revenue, strong organic growth, and healthy free cash flow—scaling fast and looking for an elite HR leader to drive the next phase.

The Role

A player‑coach who owns the full HR function: recruiting infrastructure, talent management, culture, and payroll/benefits. You’ll be the most senior leader in our Milwaukee office and a genuine seat at the executive table.

This is a company of ~200 people, and it moves like one—priorities shift quickly and systems are still being built. Candidates who’ve thrived in smaller, fast‑paced environments will find this role a natural fit.

Who You Are
  • Built for small, fast-moving companies—you’re comfortable operating where headcount is under ~250 and priorities change often
  • Genuine player‑coach—you build the strategy and do the work yourself
  • Sharp, concise communicator—comfortable presenting HR strategy and metrics to the executive team and board with pace and clarity
  • Recruiting expert, especially for sales and engineering
  • Tech‑and‑efficiency mindset—you default to solving problems with software and automation over manual process, and use AI where it helps
  • Strong cultural anchor for an office of 80+ and 200+ total employees
What You’ll Do Recruiting
  • Streamline end‑to‑end hiring with a focus on sales and engineering pipelines
  • Build scorecards, structured interviews, and accountability at every stage
  • Use AI and automation to accelerate sourcing and screening
Talent Management
  • Own merit reviews, compensation cycles, and promotion criteria
  • Run 360 feedback programs and continuous performance processes
  • Build manager training and L&D programs that scale with the business
HR Operations & Culture
  • Set the cultural tone as the senior leader in the Milwaukee office
  • Manage HR systems, compliance, and employee feedback loops
  • Lead and develop the HR team with clear expectations and coaching
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years HR experience; 3+ years in a senior leadership role
  • Track record in a company under ~250 people
  • Proven recruiting track record for sales and/or technical roles
  • Deep expertise in performance management and comp design
  • Demonstrated use of software and/or AI to reduce manual HR work – able to speak to specific tools or workflows you’ve built
  • Comfortable and practiced presenting to executives and boards
  • PE‑backed or high‑growth company experience preferred
  • SHRM‑SCP, SPHR, or MBA a plus
Comp & Perks
  • Competitive base + performance bonus + equity
  • Full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) with match
  • 3–4 days/week in Milwaukee office
