Job description

ConeTec is an industry-leading provider of geotechnical site investigation services and specializes in the testing of subsurface conditions in unique environments. Responsible for operating heavy machinery and driving commercial vehicles (Class A CDL or Class B CDL) in a variety of environments, the Field Operator will conduct basic maintenance and provide consistent, high quality upkeep of the rig and general working area, while abiding by all safety regulations. The applicant can expect to expand on their role as an operator, oftentimes assisting engineers and technicians with any other necessary tasks. A successful candidate must have the ability to multi-task with an eye for efficiency and a safety mindset; he or she must be a team player with a sense of adventure and be organizationally adept.
This role requires significant and frequent travel to job sites, mostly within the Intermountain Western US, but sometimes beyond. Travel duration can often be 7-14 days at a time, but can vary longer or shorter due to project demands. ConeTec offers generous Per Diem rates for out-of-town work.

ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Equipment Operation
  • Set-up and operate various drilling, CPT and other specialized equipment, including sampling systems, geophysical instruments and other in-situ testing equipment following ConeTec's procedures in a safe and productive manner.
  • Become trained, company-certified and competent to operate numerous types of equipment within or extensive fleet.
  • Provide timely assistance to Engineers and Technicians as required.
  • Assist with the mobilization and demobilization of equipment in hard-to-access environments.
  • Inspect equipment for safety and function; report any issues or needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on various pieces of equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Data Collection
  • Perform testing to collect data in a timely, orderly and accurate manner.
  • Compile the collected data, sample logs, etc. daily and submit to the Data Team for further processing.
  • Collect field notes and photos to guarantee the translation of information from field to office is as highly accurate as possible.

Health & Safety
  • Identify with and respect ConeTec's safety culture, first and foremost.
  • Ensure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job.
  • Report any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Project Manager and the HSE Officer, immediately.
  • Know and follow the incident reporting protocol at all times.

Other General Responsibilities
  • Communicate with the Supervisor or Project Manager as to any equipment problems or needs, as well as any field observations that might be of use.
  • Perform other shop functions as required.
  • Seek ways to improve operating procedures/processes.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving heavy materials up to 50 lbs., climbing, crawling as well as walking on uneven ground, working long hours in all weather conditions.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience/Skills Requirements
  • Experience or training relevant to drilling/sampling and/or heavy equipment operations/mechanics is an asset.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must have a commercial driver license (Class A CDL or Class B CDL acceptable) or be willing to obtain within 3 months.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is an asset.
  • Electrical and mechanical skills are an asset, but not required.
  • Various industry trainings are an asset, but will be provided as needed for the role (MSHA, OSHA, HAZWOPER, etc).

Soft Skill Requirements
  • Must possess strong work ethic and represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must be responsible and work well independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision.
  • Must enjoy working outdoors and traveling for extended periods of time (up to 2-3 weeks at a time, several times each year).
  • Must enjoy performing a wide variety of duties and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
