Job description

Job Summary:
The Excavation Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily activities of excavation crews, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with hands-on field knowledge of excavation processes related to grading, utilities, and paving preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage excavation crews on multiple job sites
  • Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors
  • Ensure proper layout, grading, trenching, backfilling, and site prep for asphalt work
  • Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications
  • Monitor job site safety and enforce company policies and OSHA standards
  • Schedule manpower, equipment, and materials to maintain project timelines
  • Identify and resolve issues that could affect the project timeline or quality
  • Maintain daily reports, track job progress, and assist with change orders
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with standards and specs
  • Participate in project planning meetings and progress updates

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in excavation or heavy civil construction, including 2+ years in a leadership/supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of excavation equipment, site prep, grading, and underground utilities
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and ability to enforce them
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
