Are you a seasoned leader in your "second half" looking to trade corporate success for Kingdom and community significance?This is a unique "Portfolio Life" opportunity (10-13 hours/week) designed for someone with a background in high-stakes logistics-think military, EMS, or executive operations-who still craves the "adrenalin of the mission" but wants to focus on mentorship and legacy, and while leaving enough free time in the schedule to let you live the life you want.We are seeking a part-time operations director to serve as thetactical lead for our backcountry support systems in Montrose. This role is for those ready to give back by redeploying a lifetime of professional wisdom to train up the next generation. You will be the organizing energy behind our logistics and operational strategy, but your true impact lies in facilitating leadership and action from a young professional or intern just starting out. The leadership of this role is leading someone through the humble stewardship of managing food and laundry logistics, combined with the technical readiness to lead an emergency response using radio, satellite, and wilderness navigation. If you have a background in high-stakes logistics-military, EMS, or executive operations-and a heart for discipling college interns to lead with excellence, we have a seat at the leadership table for you. As an extra plus, you might combine your experience in the outdoors or expedition leadership with the mental health efforts to significantly push back against suicide, overdose, and/or emotional breakdown.


Role Summary


Commitment: Part-Time (10-13 Hours/Week)


Reports to: Executive Director


The Operations Director is responsible for the strategic oversight and daily synchronization of our backcountry support systems. This role requires unique leadership: the ability to manage the mundane details of food, and gear inventory and laundry logistics while maintaining the technical readiness to lead an emergency response using radio, satellite, and UTM navigation. Through all of the different skill sets and tactics, your eyes are really on 1-2 key leaders that you are developing and overseeing.


You will not necessarily be "boots on the ground" for every task, but you are the architect and mastermind facilitator, ensuring the right people, vehicles, and supplies move in and out of the mountains at the right time.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Daily Team Orchestration (Dispatch)

  • Log Review: Perform a daily review of field logs (typically after 4:30 PM or before 8:00 AM) to assess needs.
  • Resource Allocation: Remotely assign roles, routes, and vehicles for the team by 8:00 AM daily.
  • Fleet Oversight: Supervise the lead driver to ensure 4x4 vehicles and ATVs are utilized correctly for water drops and mountain transport.

2. Personnel Management & Mentorship

  • Meeting Leadership: Attend the weekly 1.5-hour L-10 Meeting (Tuesdays 9:30-11:00 AM) to solve operational hurdles.
  • Intern Discipleship: Conduct 1-on-1 mentorship sessions (2x weekly) with the College Intern, overseeing their growth in warehouse management and field skills.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Provide "vision and tasking" for our church volunteer group, ensuring they are engaged in meaningful mission advancement (i.e. prayer, encouraging notes/support to students, sabbath meals, etc).

3. Backcountry Safety & Risk Management

  • Emergency Hub: Serve as the primary contact for weekend "Back Up" staff, ensuring they are proficient in Radio/Sat Phone protocols.
  • Technical Standards: Ensure all drivers and support staff understand UTM coordinates and backcountry navigation.
  • Incident Command: Maintain a readiness to implement ICS (Incident Command System) protocols for the rare but critical backcountry emergency events.

4. Logistics & Administrative Oversight

  • Warehouse Systems: Oversee the intern's management of food inventory, bulk buying, and packing.
  • Infrastructure: Oversee logistics in and out of the field. Develop your intern in detail management (i.e. food bin prep, cleaning, gear maintenance, laundry, feel management, etc.)

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • The "Generalist" Mindset: Comfortable in strategy "L-10" meetings looking at all operational metrics and oversight to a complex set of logistics.
  • Technical Proficiency: Must be able to use GPS and satellite phone call-ins to coordinate backcountry communication.
  • High-Stakes Composure: Background in EMS, Law Enforcement, or Military Logistics (or significant backcountry or expedition management) is highly preferred for emergency field scenarios.
  • Relational Leadership: Ability to disciple staff and value the contributions of community volunteers.


Weekly Schedule Breakdown

Daily (Mon-Fri): ~1 Hour/Day Log Review & "Dispatch" Planning (Transportation assignments)

Tuesday: 1.5 Hours L-10 Meeting.

Weekly: 1-2x Intern discipleship and management sessions., 1 hr check in with Ex. Director

Flexible: 2-4 hours for general admin and oversight.
