Job Description:

Our client is looking for an associate attorney with 5+ years of experience in defense litigation managing a docket of trucking matters.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Independently manage a docket of insurance defense cases;
  • Take and defend depositions;
  • Attend mediations;
  • Manage client and insured communications;
  • Draft Motions and pleadings;
  • Perform legal research;


Candidates must have the following experience

  • Strong litigation experience and great academic credentials 
  • Exceptional writing and advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage a docket of cases from file to trial 
  • Desire to collaborate with other attorneys and Partners on multitude of legal projects
  • Efficiently manage court appearances and depositions;
  • Serve as point of contact for clients and provide active communication 
  • Proficiency with entering billable time and achieving billable targets. 


Core Responsibilities


Case Assessment and Investigation: Evaluate the merits of claims, including medical records, accident reports, and witness statements.

 


Client Representation

  • Legal Counseling: Provide strategic advice to clients, including insurance companies, property owners, construction firms, and trucking companies regarding potential liabilities and legal strategies.
  • Court Appearances: Represent clients in court hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations, ensuring their interests are vigorously defended.
  • Negotiation: Engage in settlement negotiations with opposing counsel to resolve disputes efficiently and favorably for clients.


 

Legal Research and Documentation

  • Legal Precedents: Conduct thorough legal research to identify relevant case law, statutes, and regulations affecting the case at hand.
  • Pleadings and Motions: Draft and file necessary legal documents, including motions to dismiss, answers to complaints, and discovery requests.
  • Case Analysis: Prepare detailed reports and opinions for clients summarizing the strengths and weaknesses of their cases and recommended actions.


Discovery and Evidence Management

  • Discovery Process: Manage the discovery process, including the collection, review, and production of documents, interrogatories, and depositions.
  • Expert Witness Coordination: Work with expert witnesses in fields such as engineering, medicine, or accident reconstruction to build a robust defense.
  • Evidence Presentation: Organize and present evidence clearly and effectively in court to support the defense’s position.

 


Client Communication and Reporting

  • Regular Updates: Maintain consistent communication with clients, providing updates on case progress, potential outcomes, and any new developments.
  • Billing and Documentation: Manage case files meticulously, ensuring accurate billing, timely submission of reports, and compliance with client and court deadlines.

 


Trial Preparation and Litigation

  • Trial Strategy: Develop and implement trial strategies tailored to each case, considering the specific facts, evidence, and legal issues involved.
  • Jury Selection: Participate in jury selection to ensure a fair and impartial jury, focusing on factors that may influence the outcome.
  • Litigation Management: Oversee the entire litigation process, including pre-trial motions, trial proceedings, and post-trial motions, working towards the best possible outcome for the client.
