Job description

Eversource Energy, a Fortune 500 diversified electric, natural gas and water utility company with operations throughout New England, seeks to hire a full-time attorney with experience in environmental compliance, land use, and infrastructure siting to join its team. HYBRID WORK POLICY

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to workat least three days in the office, includingTuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to workup to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

This Senior Counsel position will report to the Assistant General Counsel - Sustainability, Environmental, Real Estate & Siting, and will be responsible for representing Eversource's interests in a broad range of environmental matters, transactions and infrastructure projects. Such matters include siting and permitting energy facilities in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire, representation of Eversource and its affiliated companies in a variety of environmental, regulatory, land use, real estate and transactional matters and issues, where knowledge of environmental laws will be important. Additional duties include interactions with environmental and other state regulatory agencies, municipalities, and appearances at zoning, conservation commission and local permitting hearings, before state public utility commissions and interaction with other utility companies. Moreover, the successful candidate will work with other seasoned environmental and siting attorneys and directly interact with internal environmental, regulatory, transmission siting, project engagement, and real estate functions, as well as operating company and management personnel. The attorney will work with contract counterparties, external contractors and vendors, and may also collaborate with and supervise outside counsel.

The position will be located in either Westwood, MA, Berlin, CT or Manchester, NH, and is eligible, under Eversource's current hybrid work policy, for work from home up to two days per week as business circumstances and workload demands permit. However, the successful candidate may periodically be required to travel to attend in person meetings with internal and external stakeholders and/or attend hearings before federal, state and local regulatory agencies in Connecticut, Massachusetts and/or New Hampshire.

Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Requires knowledge of and experience with environmental and land use law to support company transactions and infrastructure projects, including siting and permitting energy facilities in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Requires working knowledge of environmental laws/regulations, including, but not limited to, project siting issues, applicable state Environmental Justice laws, air, water quality, hazardous waste, assessment and remediation of hazardous materials/oil sites, wetlands, cultural and natural resources. Experience with energy or public utilities is a plus.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated and be able to immediately assume an active workload.Beinga strong team player, well-organized, and able to identify and successfully negotiate business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems are essential qualities to ensure success in thisposition.Thecandidate must possess excellent written and oral communications skills.

Candidates with at least 5 years of experience having prior utility or energyindustryexperience, real estate and transactional experienceare stronglypreferred.The successful candidate must be self-motivated and be able to work closelyand collaborativelywith in-house legal counsel,internal business clients,company management and, in certain cases, outside counsel. Being a good team player, well-organized, and able to identify business-oriented solutions to legal problems are important qualities to ensure success.The candidate must also demonstrate excellent written and oral communications skills and legal research abilities.
