You are the professional Breastfeeding Coordinator we are looking for at our WIC locations in Adams, Blackford, Jay, Wells, Randolph, and Huntington Counties in Indiana. This is a full-time position working 32 hours weekly from 9am - 4:30pm.

Breastfeeding Coordinator Key Responsibilities:

  • Display a positive reflection of the Indiana WIC program, both in the clinic and through community outreach activities, which may include local Farmersโ€™ Market events and collaborations with healthcare providers, non-profit organizations, and other community partners.
  • Develop working relationships with other staff and partnering community agencies.
  • Maintain a compassionate clinic environment that supports the needs of the community.
  • Support and promote breastfeeding as the normative infant feeding method within the clinic environment.
  • Provide all pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding clients with evidence-based breastfeeding support and education, within the clinic roleโ€™s scope of practice.
  • Ensure confidentiality of applicant and client information in accordance with WIC federal regulation.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the Indiana WIC program.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of local agency breastfeeding activities.
  • Keep up-to-date with breastfeeding information, attend Breastfeeding Coordinator meetings, and disseminate information to other local agency staff.
  • Ensure that local agency staff are properly trained on breastfeeding education and support.
  • Responsible for the local agencyโ€™s breastfeeding portion of the Nutrition Education/Breastfeeding Plan.
  • Provide input on the breastfeeding portion of the local agencyโ€™s fiscal budget.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support of local agency breastfeeding staff.
  • Ensure the clinic environment and client services are breastfeeding friendly.
  • Ensure that breasting supplies issuance, inventory, and maintenance are logged and monitored.
  • Monitor local agency breastfeeding rates and data.
  • Maintain written protocols, procedures, and community resource lists.
  • Identify, coordinate and collaborate with community breastfeeding stakeholders.
  • Document required information in the Indiana WIC Management Information System (INWIC MIS).
  • Participate in in-service education and staff meetings.
  • Attend off-site conferences and meetings as needed or required by the position.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

We are seeking Breastfeeding Coordinator candidates with the following qualities:

Must be one of the following:

  • Qualified Nutritionist
      • Registered Dietitian; or
      • Registration eligible to take the exam for the Commission on Dietetic Registration; or
      • Bachelorโ€™s or masterโ€™s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or Nutrition Sciences
  • Registered Nurse
  • A graduate of a bachelorโ€™s or masterโ€™s program in a health-related field which, through review of an official transcript from an accredited college, includes a study in nutrition.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license, a driving record meeting Meridian's driving policy, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance required.
