POSITION SUMMARY:
The Venue Events Production Manager is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of all audio, video, lighting, staging, and technical systems at the Reno Sparks Convention Center, the Reno Events Center, and the National Bowling Stadium, operated by the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority. This position ensures that all production equipment, temporary power systems, and IT infrastructure are properly installed, serviced, and functioning to meet the needs of clients and event partners.
The role oversees event technical planning, equipment setup and strike, temporary power distribution, and client IT services, while also supervising and developing a skilled team of AV Technicians, Stagehands, and Riggers. The manager serves as the primary on site technical contact for events, ensures adherence to safety standards, and represents the venue as Event Manager during select shows.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a competent and motivated workforce by hiring, training, and developing, coaching, and evaluating the performance of employees. Keeps employees informed of plans, schedules, policies, and procedures that affect their job performances. Provides timely and appropriate feedback. to staff on performance and work issues.Â
- Acts as the primary on site technical contact for all events at the Reno Events Center, the National Bowling Stadium, and Reno Spark Convention Center.
- Responsible for overseeing the setup and striking of equipment for events scheduled at the Reno Events Center, including but not limited to bleachers, tables, chairs, stages, and risers.Â
- Supervise stagehands during load ins, events and load outs.
- Act as Event Manager representing the Reno Events Center during select events.
- Assembles and distributes labor reports, receipts, and bills from approved technical rider requests to appropriate parties of all Reno Events Center events for event settlement.Â
- Creates, maintains, and executes back of house procedures and operations used for all Reno Events Center events.
- Advances the technical needs of events with all promoters/producers in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the primary hiring, training, supervision and coordination of full time and part time Stagehands and Riggers.Â
- Maintain effective working relationships with various representatives of entertainment and cultural organizations.
- Oversees all back of house safety which includes, but is not limited to, fall protection and its required equipment and supplies. Ensures adherence to all safety codes and guidelines.
- Trains team members and assures that each person possesses the requisite knowledge, abilities, and skills including proper and safe work methods utilize to set up various events.Â
- Evaluates the quality and efficiency of team members by reviewing daily work and advising and directing the employees in the improvement of work production and work methods.
- Identifies and implements best practices, policies, processes, and procedures to achieve an exceptional level of customer care, service and support to meet NBS/REC and the RSCVA's goals and objectives.Â
- Is knowledgeable in the RSCVA Safety Program and takes necessary steps to maintain a safe work environment. Adheres to safe work practices to prevent injuries.
- Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperates harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
- Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per RSCVA policy. Provides proper notification for absences and tardies. Takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences or tardies.
- Uses time effectively and constructively. Does not abuse supplies, equipment, and service.
- Observes all RSCVA and departmental policies governing conduct while at work (e.g., telephone and computer use, electronic messaging, smoking regulations, parking, breaks and other related policies).
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or 5 years’ progressively responsible experience in the supervision of stagehands in an arena, amphitheater, performing arts theatre or special events venue.
- Knowledgeable in customer service; Events Center capacities and capabilities; Follow spotlights; Portable Stages; Forklifts; Manlifts; Show power; Payroll procedures; and setting up temporary electrical power and other miscellaneous client needs.Â
- Experience with various video and audio equipment, computers; network and operating systems.
- Knowledgeable in recent developments, current literature, and sources of information in special event and concert production administration and management.Â
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of administration, organization, and supervision.
- Knowledge in principles of budget and personnel management and modern office management practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, standard safety precautions, and safety and rigging procedures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications including but not limited to: (PIT, MEWP, Rigging, and OSHA 30).
- General knowledge in the methods and techniques of producing quality concert sound, and standard theatrical lighting.
- General knowledge of the rules and regulations relating to public health and safety in large building facilities.
- Proven management experience in a special event and concert production position in a multi purpose arena or similar venue.
- Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate the back of house activities of a multi purpose venue.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with various representatives of entertainment and cultural organizations.Â
- Ability to recruit and hire large numbers of stagehands to fill production calls.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Auto CAD, and Outlook.
WORKING CONDITIONS /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- May require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.
- May work near moving mechanical parts.
- May work in high places and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, various temperatures both inside and outside the building, airborne particles, chemicals, fumes, and vibration.Â
- Frequently exposed to electrical components.Â
- The noise level in the work environment is loud.
- Required to work extended hours due to the requirements of production (before, during, and after events). Â
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend (at neck and waist), twist, reach above & below shoulder level as needed during the shift.
- Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation are needed to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls to accomplish essential functions.Â
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, or balance, and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
