We are looking for a Volunteer Events Management student to join our Team!

The volunteer will assist in event planning, delivery, directing teams and vendors to ensure the completion of the event agenda and respond to last minute adjustments. They will be responsible for coordination of on-site meetings and events including advising on space booking, detailing event agendas, communicating with vendors, food and beverage management, set-ups, staffing, safety planning and post-event reporting. They will also help raise funds for various programs and initiatives that will help decrease stigma associated with mental illness & addictions.


Status: Volunteer, 5 - 10 hrs/ month for a duration of 4 to 6 months starting in September 2026.


Salary: Unpaid


Location: This position is based out of our 314- 7700 Hurontario St., Brampton office. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model, staff are required to have on-site and/or community presence as per program and client needs.


What you will do:


  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of CMHA Peel Dufferin events.
  • Assist with event logistics, including agendas, registration, catering, site setup, entertainment, and materials.
  • Research and coordinate with vendors to support event needs and timelines.
  • Create and maintain event budget templates and track event-related spending.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and track follow-up action items.
  • Identify potential event risks and assist with developing contingency plans.
  • Research opportunities to reduce event costs while maintaining quality.
  • Support the annual United Way Greater Toronto campaign through planning and coordination.
  • Assist with fundraising activities, sponsorships, and donor recognition initiatives.
  • Support grant and fund development activities, including research, proposals, applications, and reporting.
  • Other duties, as assigned

What you need to Join our Team:


  • Current enrolled in a university/college student pursuing Events management or equivalent
  • Relevant full-scope event planning experience which includes planning, executing, and delivering on large scale, high attendee events.
  • Experience working with non-profits or social services agencies an asset
  • Fundraising and donor relations experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework.
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel within and around Peel Region and Dufferin County.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report.
