Position: Public Works Crew Member
Department: Public Works


Do you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and seeing the results of your work every day? The City of Suwanee is looking for dependable, hardworking individuals to join our Public Works team.


As a Crew Member, you'll play an important role in maintaining the streets, parks, facilities, and infrastructure that make Suwanee a remarkable place to live, work, and visit. No two days are the same as you may be repairing roadways, maintaining beautiful public spaces, supporting community events, or helping keep City facilities operating at their best.


Key Responsibilities: What You'll do!

  • General Maintenance of City Infrastructure
    • Load and unload materials such as gravel, dirt, asphalt, and pipe
    • Patch potholes, clean gutters, repair sidewalks, and maintain stormwater systems
    • Operate equipment and power tools for upkeep and repairs
  • Care for Parks & Public Grounds
    • Mow and trim grass, bushes, and trees across City parks and public spaces
    • Apply herbicides and pesticides as needed
    • Plant and care for shrubs, flowers, and trees
  • Support City Facilities and Events
    • Clean and maintain public restrooms and City buildings
    • Assist with setup and breakdown for City events
    • Help maintain unique community features, including Suwanee's interactive fountain
  • Operate and Maintain Fleet & Equipment
    • Perform routine maintenance on tools, vehicles, trailers, and equipment
    • Safely operate equipment in a variety of work environments

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience or basic knowledge in landscaping, construction, maintenance, or public works
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment in outdoor environments
  • Understanding of work zone safety practices and traffic laws
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork, aligned with Suwanee's values of Quality, Remarkable service, and Visionary thinking
  • Valid Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This is a physically active, hands-on role that requires working outdoors in a variety of conditions. Employees can expect to:

  • Perform frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, including heavy materials and equipment
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday
  • Operate tools and equipment in environments that may include noise, dust, dirt, and moving machinery
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required


Additional Information:

  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability
  • Occasional after-hours, on-call, or emergency response work may be necessary
