Job description

Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis Event and Conference Services is a division of University Events on the IU Indianapolis campus. We strive to provide customer focused event / client services and solutions that support the needs of our customers, both internal and external. Our primary goal is to provide an exceptional customer experience to those we serve.
Job Summary
This position works directly with event services managers, technology managers, and game day managers to build, execute, and teardown events per the request of the event coordinator / event order.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Support the daily set-up / break-down and operations for Event Services - Hine Hall, University Tower, the Madam Walker Legacy Center, and more.
  • Work in a client-facing role in multiple venues, such as conference rooms, meeting rooms, gymnasiums, and theatres.
  • Responsible for ensuring a high-level experience for the guests in those spaces.
  • Coordinate with managers and staff to complete special projects assigned for the Events department's upkeep and efficiency.
  • May maintain database to track usage and location of equipment.
  • Manage inventory of tables, chairs, linens, and other supplies and equipment.
  • Consult with supervisor and other personnel to resolve problems, such as facility needs and maintenance, equipment performance, output quality, and work schedules.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • General knowledge at the high school level
Preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
  • Experience in customer service
SKILLS
Required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to operate the machinery and equipment used in area of expertise including audio-visual equipment, spotlights, projectors, screens, overheads, cordless microphones, electrical lighting equipment, and other basic hand tools
  • Ability to interpret diagrams or other sketches and drawings
  • Ability to operate a computer

Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment.
