What is an event server?

Event servers are hospitality professionals responsible for setting up, serving, and clearing food and beverages at events such as weddings, conferences, banquets, and parties. Their duties often include preparing tables, assisting guests, delivering meals and drinks, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable guest experience. Event servers must work efficiently as part of a team, follow event plans, and provide excellent customer service throughout the event.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an event server, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Event Server, you need strong customer service abilities, attention to detail, and basic food safety knowledge, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, banquet serving protocols, and sometimes a food handler's certification is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and multitasking skills help you adapt to dynamic event environments and deliver memorable experiences. These skills ensure efficient service, guest satisfaction, and smooth event operations.

What are the typical challenges faced by event servers during large-scale events, and how can they be managed effectively?

Event servers often encounter challenges like managing high guest volumes, adapting to changing event schedules, and maintaining excellent service under pressure. To handle these effectively, strong communication with team members and coordinators is essential, as is the ability to stay organized and multitask. Many venues provide pre-event briefings and assign specific zones or tasks to each server, which helps with clarity and teamwork. Staying proactive and supporting colleagues during busy periods also ensures a smooth guest experience and reduces stress.

Job description

Description:

The Bartolotta Restaurants is a nationally recognized restaurant and catering organization co-founded by restaurateur Joe Bartolotta and his brother, two-time James Beard Award-winning Chef Paul Bartolotta. Since 1993, The Bartolotta Restaurants has grown to become the premier culinary brand in the Greater Milwaukee region, offering first-class service and cuisine across a portfolio of 17 one-of-a-kind restaurants and catering facilities. As a forward-thinking and respected company, we also give back to our community through Care-a-lotta, a charitable program that supports numerous nonprofit organizations throughout Milwaukee.

At The Bartolotta Restaurants, we are committed to excellence in every aspect of our business, from the products we source to the food and service we deliver every day in our restaurants and catering venues. We look for people who have what we call a "hospitality heart," characterized by a commitment to providing excellence, a passion for taking care of our guests, and a “can-do” attitude. We're a family-run business, and we consider our team members part of The Bartolotta Restaurants family.
