Event Professional information

What is an event professional?

Event professionals are individuals who specialize in planning, organizing, and executing events such as conferences, weddings, corporate meetings, trade shows, and festivals. Their responsibilities include coordinating logistics, managing budgets, liaising with vendors and clients, and ensuring that every aspect of an event runs smoothly. They often work under tight deadlines and must be skilled at problem-solving, communication, and multitasking. Event professionals can work independently, for event planning companies, or within organizations that regularly host events.

What are some common challenges event professionals face when managing multiple events simultaneously, and how can they be addressed?

Event Professionals often juggle several events at once, which can lead to challenges such as conflicting deadlines, resource allocation, and maintaining attention to detail. To address these, it's crucial to implement strong project management practices, prioritize clear communication with clients and vendors, and utilize event planning software to keep tasks organized. Building a reliable team and delegating responsibilities effectively also ensures smoother workflows and successful event outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an event professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Event Professional, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in event planning or hospitality, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and vendor management systems is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving abilities, and creativity help professionals excel in managing clients and overcoming logistical challenges. These skills are crucial for delivering seamless, memorable events that meet client expectations and business objectives.

What is the difference between Event Professional vs Event Coordinator?

The roles often overlap, but the Event Professional has a broader scope and strategic responsibilities.

Job description

Description

The Wedding & Events Sales Manager is a passionate, creative, and results-driven leader responsible for creating exceptional experiences for our clients from the first conversation through the successful execution of each event. This role combines relationship-driven sales, thoughtful design, operational excellence, and team leadership while consistently bringing our Core Values-Connection, Celebration, Ownership, Drive, Integrity, and Creativity to life.

The ideal candidate builds genuine relationships, inspires and develops their team, takes ownership of every detail, drives profitable results, leads with integrity, and brings creativity and fresh perspective to every wedding and event. This leader serves as a trusted partner to clients, planners, vendors, and internal teams, ensuring every event reflects the highest level of service, professionalism, and the Dr Delphinium experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE Create the experience. Build the relationship. Bring the vision to life.

You are the face of the Dr Delphinium wedding and events experience. From the first consultation to the final follow-up, you build trust, uncover the client’s vision, and turn ideas into beautifully designed celebrations.

  • Be the trusted creative partner for clients, wedding planners, venues, and event professionals—listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and translating their vision into memorable event experiences.
  • Meet with clients onsite and offsite to understand their event vision, aesthetic, priorities, and budget.
  • Create inspiring, personalized proposals that showcase the possibilities of Dr Delphinium's floral and event design.
  • Deliver proposals and contracts within 48 hours, keeping clients engaged and excited throughout the sales process.
  • Own the client relationship from initial consultation through event completion, ensuring a seamless and elevated experience at every touchpoint.
  • Consistently achieve sales and profitability goals while delivering solutions that are right for the client and the business.
  • Process deposits and payments accurately and in accordance with company policies.
  • Respond to client questions and concerns with urgency, professionalism, and genuine care—turning challenges into opportunities to build trust.
  • Follow up after events to gather feedback, celebrate the experience, and strengthen long-term client relationships.
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with wedding planners, venues, vendors, and other industry professionals to expand our network and generate new opportunities.
  • Stay ahead of emerging wedding, floral, fashion, and event trends and bring fresh ideas and inspiration to our clients and team.
  • Represent Dr Delphinium with Connection, Celebration, Ownership, Drive, Integrity, and Creativity in every client and industry interaction.
  • Deliver a level of service that makes clients feel heard, valued, inspired, and confident that they chose the right partner for their celebration.

EVENT LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONS

Turn creative vision into flawless execution.

Great events don't happen by accident. This role connects the creative vision sold to the client with the people, products, timelines, and details required to bring it beautifully to life.

  • Own the details. Develop accurate product request sheets and coordinate with the Buyer/General Manager to ensure all products and materials are ordered and available when needed.
  • Translate sold concepts into clear, detailed floral production sheets for the Event Coordinator and production team.
  • Partner closely with the Event Coordinator to review event details, production requirements, timelines, quantities, and special considerations.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure everyone involved in an event understands the vision, expectations, responsibilities, and deadlines.
  • Participate in onsite setup and event coordination when needed, ensuring the finished product reflects what was promised and sold.
  • Anticipate potential challenges before they become problems and take ownership of finding solutions.
  • Partner with the Marketing Manager to develop and execute strategies that increase wedding and event awareness, leads, and sales.
  • Equip and empower Sales Associates with the knowledge, resources, product information, and tools they need to confidently serve clients and resolve questions.
  • Coach, develop, recognize, and hold team members accountable for performance and client service.
  • Provide timely feedback and address performance concerns, including formal corrective action when necessary.
  • Lead weekly team meetings focused on upcoming events, priorities, challenges, sales opportunities, and operational needs.
  • Conduct monthly departmental meetings that create alignment, accountability, engagement, and forward momentum.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, high-performing team culture where people feel supported, challenged, and inspired to do their best work.
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with all levels of employees, clients, vendors, planners, and industry partners.
  • Be willing to jump in wherever needed to help the team and ensure an exceptional client and event experience.
  • Maintain a polished, professional appearance that reflects the Dr Delphinium brand and the elevated experience we provide.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who is equal parts relationship builder, creative thinker, sales leader, and problem solver.

The right person will:

  • Love people and love to serve. You genuinely enjoy connecting with clients, building relationships, and creating experiences that make people feel valued and cared for.
  • Lead with confidence and heart. You know how to influence, inspire, delegate, coach, and hold people accountable while building trust and respect.
  • Think creatively and strategically. You have a natural eye for flowers, color, design, style, and the details that transform an event from beautiful to unforgettable.
  • Be a problem-solver. You think critically, make sound decisions, anticipate challenges, and stay focused on solutions when plans change.
  • Stay calm under pressure. Weddings come with moving parts and unexpected moments. You bring a steady, professional, and positive presence when things get complicated.
  • Be highly organized. You can manage multiple clients, events, deadlines, vendors, venues, and priorities without losing sight of the details.
  • Be driven and self-motivated. You take initiative, pursue results, and don't wait to be told what needs to be done.
  • Communicate exceptionally well. You listen carefully, communicate clearly, and know how to build confidence with clients, planners, vendors, and team members.
  • Be flexible and willing to jump in. You understand that great leaders don't just delegate—they step in and help wherever needed to get the job done.
  • Have a strong sales instinct. You know how to uncover what a client really wants, build value, confidently present solutions, and close the sale while protecting profitability.
  • Be relationship-driven. You enjoy networking and naturally build connections with planners, venues, vendors, and other professionals in the wedding and events community.
  • Embrace creativity and change. You stay curious, follow industry trends, and continuously look for ways to elevate the client experience and our work.
EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • 3+ years of proven wedding and/or event sales experience, preferably in floral, event, hospitality, hotel, restaurant, entertainment, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Strong knowledge of weddings, events, floral design, décor, color, and event aesthetics.
  • Previous leadership or management experience with demonstrated ability to coach and develop a team.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets.
  • Comfortable learning and utilizing new technology, software, and business systems.
ABOVE ALL...

We're looking for someone who brings energy, creativity, confidence, curiosity, and genuine care for people to the role.

Someone who can sell the dream, lead the team, solve the unexpected, and still get excited about the flowers and overall experience.

If you're passionate about creating extraordinary celebrations and believe that exceptional service, beautiful design, and strong relationships belong together, you may be exactly who you're looking for.
