Job description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling significant operation, and maintenance functions of a designated operations
unit/production center for Medshore Ambulance Service. The Operations Manager has formal authority (decision-making) over all affairs that affect the designated operations unit/production center, System Status Management of the designated operations unit/production center, and staff authority (advise, assist, or offer service) to other positions within the organization. Performs a wide range of difficult to complex administrative activities related to operations and discretionary activities that serve to support effective company operations. The Operations Manager assists the General Manager and Senior Management in formulating objectives, policies, and strategies. He/she announces guidelines for authorized company plans, programs, and procedures to ensure the effective management of the personnel, activities, and programs and to work toward the attainment of current and future company objectives. Responsible for recommendations in budget preparations as it pertains to the designated operations unit/production center. Responsible for statistical information control and distribution as it pertains to system status management. The Operations Manager will serve on the utilization committee as outlined in policy #828. He / She must be familiar with local, state, federal laws and regulations applicable to the operations of ambulance and wheelchair services. He / She maintains contacts with local and state agencies so as to foster cooperation and good public relations. He / She is responsible for the efficient operations of the designated operations unit/production center and is to ensure the highest possible quality of care, and safety of the patients being treated and transported by the crews' providing services. The goal of the Operations Manager is to produce high - quality unit hours at a reasonable cost per unit hour, and to fulfill as closely as possible the coverage requirements of senior management. A "high quality unit hour" may be summarized as a clinically - competent, neat - appearing, well-motivated crew conducting themselves at all times in a safe, friendly, caring, and professional manner, while working with high quality, reliable, clean, and well-maintained equipment under the direction of the control center for one hour. The Operations Manager participates in and/or undertakes any special projects as required by the General Manager and/or Senior Management.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
• Confers frequently with the Senior Management, Operations Supervisors, Assistant Supervisors and
other management to discuss the activities of the company.
• Plans medium and long-range goals and objectives for field operations.
• Responsible for selection and placement of operations personnel at the level of Supervisor.
Consulted in all questionable placements in the designated operations unit/production center.
• Responsible for maintaining good relations with the public and allied agencies as they relate to the
field operations divisions.
• Assists in contract negotiations and governmental relations affecting the individual operating unit.
• Ensures that assigned personnel are fully informed of company policies, local procedures and other
information pertinent to their jobs.
• Reviews and acts upon, as necessary, all incident, deviation/exception, and other reports within the
company.
• Keeps current on events affecting Medshore Ambulance Service: accidents, injuries, breaches of
policy, interagency relations, morale, newsworthy events, and superior/poor performance by field
personnel.
• Responsible for reviewing performance evaluations of the Operations Supervisors and Assistant
Operations Supervisors within the designated operations unit/production center and providing input
into the appraisal process.
• Assists the Operations Supervisors and Assistant Operations Supervisors in administering discipline
and counseling to achieve a desired result. May carry out discipline up to and including Class III
disciplinary actions.
• Responsible for a working knowledge of all equipment within the company.
• Responsible for adequate staffing of the designated operations unit/production center.
• Responsible for ensuring maintenance compliance of company vehicles and facilities as directed by
the Maintenance Manager.
• Attends needed continuing education programs
• May act as a liaison for the General Manager and President by attending meetings with allied
agencies.
• Maintains close working relationships with representatives of other departments in the company.
• Confers frequently with Senior Management to discuss the activities of the company.
• Assigns operations personnel according to their level of achievement and their classification based on
their knowledge of EMS and medical transportation.
• Recommends policy to Management.
• Other reasonable duties relating to this position as determined by the General Manager and/or Senior
Management.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Typically, Office Environment. However, must be adaptive to
work in all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to, rain, snow, heat, etc.
Due to the uncontrolled environment in the field of emergency medical services, he/she may occasionally
be subjected to predisposing themselves to be at risk for:
A. Bodily Harm
B. Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and other Potentially Infectious Materials (OPIM).

• The incumbent is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with the Company's privacy policies, procedures, practices, as required by federal and South Carolina law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to
comply with the Company's policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or association with Medshore Ambulance Service.
• The incumbent may access protected health information and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete assigned job duties. The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a need-to-know specific patient information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other company operations.
• The incumbent is encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding the Company's policies and procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of that policy to the Chief Compliance & Professional Standards Officer
• The incumbent is expected to actively participate in Company privacy training and is required to communicate privacy policy information to coworkers, students, patients and others in accordance with Company policy.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. AS degree or equivalent experience (5 years senior management experience) and/or any
equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
2. Strong background in Operational aspects of Ambulance/Wheelchair and Emergency Medical Services
3. Paramedic certification required, National Registered preferred.
4. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS)-(If Applicable).
5. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS)
6. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS)- (If Applicable)
7. Must be available for recall 24 hours a day for emergency situations. Must be at a designated phone number or able to be contacted by cell phone (provided by Medshore
Ambulance Service). If you plan to be unreachable for 24 hours, must notify the Chief Executive Officer.
8. Must be flexible in work schedule to meet the demands of the company.
9. Must attend scheduled and called meetings.
