Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Catering Event Supervisor position. The Casual Catering Event Supervisor is a part-time (up to 19 hours per week), casual position with no benefits. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $20.00-$22.00 per hour.


The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.


The Casual Catering Event Supervisor supports Amherst College Dining Services in delivering premium products and top-tier hospitality to the campus community. Reporting directly to the Catering Manger and Assistant Catering Manager, this role collaborates with the catering leadership team and front-of-house staff to execute a diverse range of events, from formal banquets and receptions to large-scale campus gatherings and deliveries. This is an on-call position with dynamic hours-including weekdays, evenings, and weekends-aligned with the College's event calendar. Key responsibilities also include leading, training, and supervising waitstaff during live event operations.


Summary of Responsibilities:


  • Leadership & Service: Lead, train, and supervise service staff during events to maintain high standards of hospitality.

  • Guest Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for guests; proactively manage and resolve any customer conflicts.

  • Operations & Safety: Ensure all food and beverage service is delivered in a timely, efficient manner while strictly adhering to safe food handling practices.

  • Flexibility: Adapt to dynamic scheduling changes on short notice and uphold all policies and procedures established by management.

  • Event Logistics: Assist with the physical setup and breakdown of events, including moving tables, chairs, and banquet equipment. Maintain clean and organized event spaces, including vacuuming and post-event cleanup.

Qualifications:


Required


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent work experience in lieu of minimum education and related experience.
  • Allergen Awareness Certified as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or be able to achieve within six months of employment.
  • TIP'S Alcohol Certification in Massachusetts, or to be able to achieve within six months of employment.
  • ServSafe Certification or to be able to achieve within six months of employment.
  • Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test.
  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program. (See: https://www.fivecolleges.edu/riskmgmt/driver_credentialing)

  • Experience working in a college or university food service/Hospitality setting.
