Your Role:
  • Design and develop detailed product part and assembly drawings for toolboxes, chests, carts, and related products using established industry and Company engineering standards.
  • Create, edit, and maintain 3D models and engineering drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and product configuration.
  • Review sample parts, sketches, specifications, and written product descriptions to develop project plans.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to collect dimensional data for product and assembly drawings.
  • Analyze product designs, test data, and reports to verify compliance with functional performance requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the product development process.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to resolve design, production, and quality issues.
  • Assist with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to improve production efficiency.
  • Prepare engineering changes, design modifications, and update product drawings as needed.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing existing designs and recommending improvements.
  • Support customer and sales requests related to product configurations and costing.
  • Prepare written project status updates and communicate production and quality concerns with recommended solutions.
What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Design, Tooling Design, or a related design field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of related engineering design experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with measuring equipment, sheet metal forming, and welding processes.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling and engineering design software.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering standards, operating manuals, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of algebra and geometry as applied to sheet metal layouts and product construction.
  • Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data, establish facts, and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical instructions in written, verbal, mathematical, and diagram form.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills when working with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Ability to navigate engineering software, CAD systems, and internal computer database systems.
Physical Demands:
  • Primarily sedentary work involving extended periods of sitting.
  • Occasional handling of product parts and assemblies made from sheet steel, cast aluminum, plastic, and rubber.
  • Rarely required to lift items exceeding 40 pounds.
Work Environment:
  • Office environment with a generally quiet noise level.
  • Regular interaction with engineering documentation, computer systems, and manufactured product components.
