What is an event design assistant?

Event Design Assistants are professionals who support event planners and designers in creating visually appealing and cohesive event experiences. Their responsibilities often include assisting with décor setup, sourcing materials, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring the design vision is executed on-site. They work closely with the lead event designer to help bring creative concepts to life, whether for weddings, corporate events, or parties. This role requires a keen eye for detail, creativity, and strong organizational skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an event design assistant?

To thrive as an Event Design Assistant, you need a solid understanding of event planning processes, creativity, attention to detail, and often a background in design or hospitality. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, event management platforms, and basic budgeting tools is commonly required. These skills are vital for executing visually appealing, well-coordinated events that meet client expectations and run smoothly.

Linvilla Orchards

Media, PA • On-site

Full-time

Posted 13 days ago

Job description

Linvilla Orchards is looking for a creative, hands-on individual to join our Art Department and help bring our seasonal attractions and events to life. This could be a great position for someone with a background in art, theater, scenic design, construction, woodworking, event production, or another creative trade. Our Art Department designs, builds, paints, decorates, and installs many of the displays and attractions seen throughout the farm.
This is a highly physical, hands-on position that combines creativity with construction and set building. While painting, decorating, and design are important parts of the job, a significant portion of the work involves physically building, moving, installing, and taking down large props, sets, displays, and structures. We're looking for someone who can combine creativity with practical building skills and enjoys seeing an idea go from a sketch or concept to a finished display.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the design and construction of seasonal displays, sets, props, and attractions
  • Help design and build our Witch's Houses and other scenery for fall hayrides
  • Assist with the design, construction, and setup of displays
  • Build props, scenery, signs, displays, and decorative elements for events throughout the farm
  • Paint, stain, decorate, and finish sets and displays
  • Help turn creative concepts and sketches into finished installations
  • Use power tools and hand tools for basic construction and fabrication
  • Work with materials such as lumber, plywood, hardware, paint, fabric, and found or repurposed materials
  • Assist with assembling, installing, moving, and dismantling displays
  • Help repair, refresh, and repurpose existing props and seasonal decorations
  • Work both independently and collaboratively on creative projects
  • Keep tools, materials, and Art Department work areas organized
  • Assist with other creative and event-related projects as needed
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy props, set pieces, lumber, building materials, and decorations

Requirements
  • Strong artistic and creative abilities
  • Some construction, woodworking, set-building, or similar hands-on experience preferred
  • Experience safely using common hand and power tools
  • Basic understanding of how to build sturdy structures, props, and displays
  • Painting and decorating skills
  • Ability to visualize a project and contribute creative ideas
  • Willingness to work with a wide variety of materials and learn new techniques
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical work including standing, bending, lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, and working with tools
  • Perform physically demanding setup and breakdown of seasonal displays and attractions
  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently once given direction
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to improvise when building custom projects
  • Dependability and ability to complete projects on schedule
  • Ability to work well as part of a collaborative team
