Classification Summary
Under general supervision, this position will maintain Airport grounds, facilities and equipment, assist with department activities, programs and events, and construction functions for the Village of Ruidoso. This position is temporary for the summer months and is part-time, usually around 30 hours per week. Non-exempt FLSA.
Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
  • Maintains Airport grounds and facilities.
  • Performs various janitorial duties which include sweeping, mopping, cleaning restroom fixtures.
  • Mow, trim, rake pine needles, remove litter or debris from airport grounds.
  • Applies fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides on public grounds.
  • Maintains department equipment and vehicles.
  • Uses Zero-Turn Mower, Tractor with 15 ft. shredder deck Wheeled trimmer and weed eater
  • Uses various hand tools for airport improvements. (e.g. shovels, rakes, saws)
  • Assist the department for a variety of activities, programs and events.
  • Demonstrates community pride by diligent work performance to provide the public Top-Quality facilities.
Other Responsibilities
  • Must have communication skills
  • Ensures that time is submitted accurately, in a timely manner, and reflects actual hours worked.
  • Ensure that any on-the- job injury is reported to a supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with all Village of Ruidoso Policies and Procedures including but not limited to the Personnel Manual, Procurement Policy etc.
  • Reports on any suspected fraud and/or abuse to the Airport Manager, Airport Supervisor or Village Manager
  • Ensure any reports of harassment are immediately reported and appropriate actions are taken.
  • Attend meetings, classes and workshops.
Physical Requirements
  • May require lifting boxes, equipment and occasional moving or adjustment of office furniture.
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 80 pounds.
  • Frequently squatting, bending, or twisting are required.
Work Environment
  • May work an irregular schedule, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be called in to work during off hours when needed.
  • Noise levels could be moderate to loud in work environment.
  • May work outside in adverse weather.
Travel Requirements
Limited travel - ability to travel for activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the area. Overnight travel as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent and two years of manual labor experience preferred. Prior experience preferred in building maintenance. Must be able to pass criminal history checks, be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with Village "Drug Free" Policy. Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law. MVD background checks will be conducted by the Village of Ruidoso on an ongoing basis.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator's permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge Of: OSHA and safety regulations, techniques of general construction, maintenance and repair of various landscaping equipment.
Skill In: establishing and maintaining routine working relationships with citizens, employees, supervisor and management; use and operation of different landscaping tools.
Ability To: maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time, driving or riding in vehicles. Adapt to inclement weather conditions and/or situations. Perform duties and adapt to flexible work schedules as established by supervisor. Work in a stressful environment and deal effectively with stress. Closing Statements
