What does an evening woodworking CNC operator do?

An Evening Woodworking CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) machines that cut, shape, and finish wood products during evening shifts. They read blueprints or technical drawings, load materials, input machine instructions, and monitor the production process to ensure quality and precision. Operators also perform routine maintenance and inspect finished products for accuracy according to specifications. This role often requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to safety protocols while working independently or as part of a team during evening hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an evening woodworking CNC operator?

To thrive as an Evening Woodworking CNC Operator, you need strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience with woodworking machinery, often supported by a high school diploma or technical training. Familiarity with CNC programming software (such as Mastercam or AutoCAD), machine setup, and maintenance procedures is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, reliability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure precise production, safe operations, and efficient workflow during evening shifts in a manufacturing environment.

Familiarity with safety protocols and ongoing training are also essential for success in this role.

  • Ability to safely handle full-size sheet goods and manufactured components with assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to work around machinery, dust, noise, and moving equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment.
