What is an evening warm line counselor?

Evening Warm Line Counselors are mental health professionals or trained peer support specialists who provide non-crisis emotional support to individuals during evening hours, often outside of traditional business times. They offer a listening ear, help callers process their feelings, and may provide information about coping strategies or community resources. The main goal is to support individuals experiencing distress, loneliness, or anxiety, but not in immediate crisis, helping them feel heard and less isolated. Warm lines are typically confidential and free, serving as a preventive measure to reduce the escalation of mental health issues.

What are some typical challenges faced by an evening warm line counselor, and how can they prepare for them?

Evening Warm Line Counselors often encounter callers experiencing loneliness, anxiety, or emotional distress outside of regular office hours. One common challenge is managing high call volumes while providing empathetic, attentive support to each individual. Counselors should be prepared to use strong active listening and de-escalation skills, and maintain self-care routines to prevent burnout. Being familiar with local resources for referrals is also essential, as callers may need additional support beyond the conversation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an evening warm line counselor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Evening Warm Line Counselor, you need a background in psychology, social work, or counseling, often supported by relevant certifications or degrees in mental health fields. Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols, call management software, and documentation systems is typically required. Strong active listening, empathy, and emotional resilience are crucial soft skills for supporting callers in distress. These abilities help provide immediate emotional support, ensure caller safety, and contribute to overall mental well-being in a sensitive, after-hours environment.

At Insomnia Cookies, warm cookies are just the beginning.
As a Cookie Crew Member, you're part baker, part hospitality expert, and part late-night hero. Whether you're welcoming guests into the bakery, pulling a fresh tray of cookies from the oven, or packing the perfect delivery order, you'll help create the experience that keeps our fans coming back night after night.
Our bakeries move fast, especially after the rest of the world has called it a night. Every shift is a team effort, and every warm cookie, friendly interaction, and perfectly packed order matters.
If you enjoy working with great people, thrive in an energetic environment, and love making someone's day just a little sweeter, you'll fit right in.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Welcome every guest with genuine hospitality and make every interaction memorable.
  • Prepare, bake, and package our warm cookies, brownies, ice cream, and other treats to Insomnia's quality standards.
  • Accurately prepare in-store, pickup, delivery, and online orders.
  • Operate the register and process guest transactions.
  • Keep the bakery clean, stocked, organized, and food-safe throughout every shift.
  • Jump in wherever your team needs you, whether that's restocking supplies, helping a teammate, or keeping the line moving.
  • Resolve guest concerns with empathy and urgency, partnering with your Shift Leader when needed.
  • Deliver the kind of experience that turns first-time guests into lifelong Insomniacs.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

This position regularly requires the ability to:

  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle bakery equipment, food products, and a point-of-sale system.
  • Work in environments with varying temperatures, including around ovens, freezers, and refrigeration units.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Read order screens, recipes, and safety information.
  • Communicate effectively with guests and team members in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment
This position works in a fast-paced bakery environment that includes frequent interaction with guests, exposure to heat from ovens, refrigerated storage areas, cleaning chemicals, and moderate noise levels. Evening, late-night, weekend, and holiday shifts are a regular part of the business.
