Job description

JOB PURPOSE

This position is responsible for ensuring that employees on their shift stay on task as well as monitoring the flow of processes and progress. The shift lead may at times shift around employees to fill a process or position that is in need of additional support. The shift lead will report directly to their supervisor any deficiencies or facility issues that need to be addressed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for leading team to pack, process and ship all customer orders accurately, timely and per SOP
  • Assist in training personnel to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy
  • Make decisions on when heavy orders need to be shipped freight and make those recommendations to the Warehouse Supervisor for approval
  • Ensure team properly packs and secures all order as to reduce damage during the shipping process
  • Meet daily productivity quotas as dictated by the Warehouse Supervisor and Production Manager
  • Ensures team safely loads pallets and ensures that all pallets are prepared and ready to be received and transported by all outside shipping agencies
  • Verify piece counts and weights on all shipments – using most cost-effective method of shipment or adhering to the customer’s requested shipping method
  • Attempt to troubleshoot errors on the shipping line at the lowest level
  • Notify Supervisor of any delays or problems during packing, processing or shipping operations that cannot be rectified at team lead level
  • Read orders to ascertain description; sizes, colors, and quantities of merchandise and ensure every employee on picking team is proficient in this area
  • Builds and breaks down cargo containers and pallets using necessary equipment if required (forklift, scissor lift, etc.
  • Sorts, dimentionalizes, and labels freight using necessary equipment when required
  • Ensure team properly packs and secures all order as to reduce damage during the shipping process
  • Participates in the 5S Program and enforce those standards upon Shipping Team
  • Report to work and from all breaks on time and ensures employees adhere to this standard as well
  • Be accountable for your work performance and all actions regarding the duties and responsibilities as it relates to your position and your employees
  • Assists supervisor in encouraging all team members to improve skills and knowledge
  • Required to stay current on all shipping regulations and procedures and ensure that employees are adhering to these changes. Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements
  • All other duties, as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching, and full range of body motion including handling and lifting up to 75 pounds frequently, manual and finger dexterity, as well as a normal range of hearing and vision. Team members will be handling paperwork and using a computer.
