Artistic Carver

Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to four National Historic Landmarks. HHV has several openings for Artistic Carvers to join the team that produces the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze in Croton on Hudson. The ideal candidate will have plenty of hands-on artistic experience working as a print maker, wood carver, tattoo artist or similar discipline.

Job Overview

· Comfort drawing to repeat or interpret designs and imagery supplied by Design Supervisor.

· Experience using cutting tools including knives, lino and wood carving tools.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a creative environment.

· Work at a professional pace within the guidelines set by our Design Supervisor, to produce the thousands of hand carved Jack O’Lanterns required for this event.

· This is a part-time opportunity that offers and requires a lot of flexibility. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be able to do some heavy lifting and moving, and work indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.

· Assist in maintaining the safety and efficiency of all carving operations.

· Must be available to work at HHV events, including weekends and holidays.

· In addition to regular daytime schedule , availability and flexibility during HHV fall season to work approximately ten evening shifts, five to six hours each shift.

Requirements

· Successful candidates will have demonstrated artistic skill, with samples of work to show.

· Availability to work regularly, from 8am – 4pm, 2-3 days per week, in Croton-on-Hudson.

· Ability to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, is necessary.

· Clean and current driver’s license preferred.

· Willingness to learn some light electrical work and participate in on site set up and strike of the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze elements.
