Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Android Engineer based in Netherlands.

This is an opportunity to take full ownership of a fast-growing consumer mobile product used by students around the world.
You will lead Android development end-to-end, from architecture and performance to releases and long-term technical direction.
Working within a small, highly autonomous engineering team, you will have significant influence over the mobile roadmap and product experience.
You will mentor existing mobile engineers while raising the standard for Android engineering quality, usability, and craft.
The role combines hands-on development with close collaboration across engineering, product, growth, onboarding, and retention.
You will work in a product-led growth environment where experimentation, A/B testing, measurement, and rapid iteration are central to decision-making.
As mobile becomes an increasingly important part of the product, you may also help shape and grow a dedicated mobile engineering team.

Accountabilities
  • Own the Android application end-to-end, including architecture, technical direction, performance, releases, and roadmap execution.
  • Establish and communicate the technical vision for mobile development while maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and support existing mobile engineers, helping them grow their technical capabilities and impact.
  • Partner closely with engineering and product leadership to shape engineering strategy and prioritize mobile initiatives.
  • Collaborate with product and growth teams on features that improve acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
  • Deliver a polished, native-feeling Android experience with smooth animations, responsive interactions, and platform-appropriate design patterns.
  • Develop and ship features rapidly within a product-led growth and A/B testing environment.
  • Instrument features, analyze results, and use data and experimentation to continuously improve the product.
  • Own the Android app release process, including versioning, Google Play deployment, app-store optimization, crash monitoring, and performance tracking.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues while proactively improving application stability and performance.
  • Help define the future structure and capabilities of the mobile engineering function as the product and team scale.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in native Android development.
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and proven ability to build and ship high-quality consumer Android applications.
  • Hands-on experience with both Jetpack Compose and traditional Android Views.
  • Strong knowledge of Android frameworks, architecture patterns, and state-management approaches.
  • Experience with tools and services such as Firebase, push notifications, Google Play Console, and Play Store deployment.
  • Strong proficiency with Android Studio, automated testing frameworks, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Experience monitoring and improving application stability, including crash analysis and performance monitoring.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, or technically guiding other engineers.
  • Ability to take ownership of ambiguous problems, make sound technical decisions, and operate independently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and growth functions.
  • A product-oriented mindset and interest in using experimentation, data, and user feedback to drive technical and product decisions.
  • Java experience is a plus.
  • iOS development experience with Swift is a plus.
  • Experience working in a remote-first environment and collaborating effectively across distributed teams is advantageous.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position within Europe, with a preference for candidates based in Western or Continental Europe.
  • Portugal relocation sponsorship may be available.
  • Flexible salary with no fixed compensation budget, allowing for competitive offers based on experience and profile.
  • Stock options.
  • Full-time employment or independent contractor arrangements.
  • Opportunity to work on a consumer AI product with a rapidly growing international user base.
  • High level of ownership and autonomy over Android architecture, engineering practices, and product direction.
  • Opportunity to mentor engineers and potentially help build a larger dedicated mobile engineering team.
  • Fast-paced product-led environment with significant exposure to experimentation, A/B testing, growth, and data-driven product development.
  • Modern technology environment spanning mobile, web, backend, and cloud technologies.
