The Position
We are seeking an experienced High School Math Tutor & Instructional Coach to join our team full-time in the Washington, DC metro area (DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia).
This dual-role position combines high-level, direct student instruction with internal educator development.
  • 75% In-Home Tutoring: Delivering targeted, high-impact 1-on-1 tutoring for high school math courses, with a heavy emphasis on advanced levels through AP Calculus AB and BC.
  • 25% Instructional Coaching: Mentoring, coaching, and supporting our team of academic tutors to elevate instructional quality, refine pedagogical strategies, and support tutor retention.
This position requires full-time availability (approx. 30–40 hours per week), combining after-school/evening/weekend in-home tutoring sessions with flexible administrative and coaching hours.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Instruction & Tutoring (75%)
  • Deliver 60-to-90-minute private, in-home tutoring sessions for high school students across the DMV in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus AB and BC.
  • Create customized, outcome-driven lesson plans aligned with student school curricula, learning styles, and academic goals.
  • Maintain proactive, consistent, and positive communication with parents and students to build trust, report progress, and foster strong relationships.
  • Track long-term student growth and refine instructional strategies throughout the school year.
Instructional Coaching & Staff Support (25%)
  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate academic tutors across various subjects to improve instructional delivery, session management, and client retention.
  • Conduct session observations, review tutor session feedback, and provide actionable, constructive guidance.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Training and Curriculum to design training materials, lead professional development workshops, and assist in onboarding new tutors.
  • Serve as a pedagogical sounding board for tutors navigating complex student needs or challenging subject matter.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Teaching & Tutoring Expertise: Proven experience teaching or tutoring high school math. Mastery of advanced high school mathematics through AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC is required.
  • Instructional Coaching Experience: Demonstrated experience coaching, evaluating, or mentoring teachers or tutors (e.g., as a department chair, instructional coach, master teacher, or mentor).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in Mathematics, Math Education, STEM, or a related field—along with a teaching credential or Master’s/Ph.D.—is strongly preferred.
  • Relationship Builder: Passionate about fostering deep relationships with students, parents, and fellow educators.
  • Operational Excellence: Highly organized and detail-oriented, with exceptional time management, communication, and process-adherence skills.
Logistical Requirements
  • Location & Travel: Based in the Washington, DC metro area with reliable access to a vehicle and willingness to travel up to 40 minutes for in-home tutoring sessions.
  • Schedule: Primary tutoring hours occur during after-school/evening hours (weekdays 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM) and weekends. Coaching and administrative responsibilities offer flexible scheduling.
  • Commitment: Full-time role (30–40 hours/week). We seek candidates looking for a multi-year commitment (2–3 years minimum).
