Job description

Instructor of Biology (General Biology + Laboratories) - Two Positions
Position Summary: The Department of Biology seeks a teaching-focused Instructor of Biology responsible for delivering General Biology lectures and lab, coordinating all associated laboratory sections. The position emphasizes high-quality, student-centered instruction and effective laboratory experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach General Biology courses and all associated laboratory sections, and other biology laboratory courses as needed.
  • Develop and align course materials, assessments, and labs with program outcomes.
  • Implement inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Supervise and support laboratory assistants and student workers.
  • Maintain lab safety standards and organize lab operations.
  • Assess student learning and contribute to program improvement.
  • Advise and mentor students.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Biology or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching General Biology and laboratory courses.
  • Strong communication, organization, and instructional skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching and student success.
  • Demonstrated experience working in academic, research, or teaching laboratories.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, and regulatory compliance (e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) protocols).
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and techniques commonly used in biology instruction or research.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, including laboratory coordination and instructional support.

Teaching Load:
  • 12-15 contact hours per semester.
  • Some evening or Saturday labs under rare circumstances, may be required.

Employment and Compensation:
  • Full-time, 12-month appointment.
  • Salary and rank commensurate with experience.
