Description
Adjunct Instructor, Horticulture Technology
Example of Duties
  • Teach horticulture courses during the day, evening and/or hybrid as needed.
  • Planning and implementing hands-on projects to reinforce course objectives.
  • Provide effective instruction to students in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental electronic materials to enhance lessons, using effective evaluation methods to evaluate student performance.
  • Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.
  • Maintain teaching and work environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.
  • Other tasks will include identifying and assessing student learning outcomes; excellent communication with the Department Head; grading and returning work in a timely manner; and holding weekly office hours.

Typical Qualifications
Required:
  • Associate's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution in Agricultural Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in an arboriculture related job, such as climber or plant health care specialist.
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Applicant should also be able to demonstrate the ability to implement strict safety protocols on a continual basis and pay close attention to detail.
  • Applicant must have the ability to operate equipment associated with horticulture related courses

Preferred:
  • 2 years of higher education teaching experience
  • NC Pesticide License
