What does an evangelism job involve?

An evangelism job typically involves promoting a product, service, technology, or belief system to new audiences and helping to build a community around it. People in evangelism roles often act as advocates, educators, and connectors, sharing information, giving presentations, and engaging with both internal teams and external communities. This position is common in technology companies, where evangelists help developers, customers, and partners understand and adopt new tools or platforms. The goal is to inspire enthusiasm, foster loyalty, and grow a user base or following.

What is the difference between Evangelism vs Sales Representative?

AspectEvangelismSales Representative
CredentialsOften requires strong communication skills, industry knowledge, sometimes certifications in specific fieldsTypically requires sales experience, knowledge of products/services, and sometimes certifications in sales or related areas
Work EnvironmentEngages with communities, conferences, and online platforms to promote a brand or ideaWorks directly with clients, conducts meetings, and closes sales in various settings
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in tech, religious, and nonprofit sectors to promote ideas or productsCommon across retail, B2B, and service industries to generate revenue

While both roles involve promoting and engaging with audiences, Evangelism focuses on spreading ideas or beliefs often without direct sales goals, whereas Sales Representatives aim to convert prospects into customers through direct sales efforts.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in evangelism roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in evangelism roles often face the challenge of engaging diverse audiences who may have varying levels of interest or understanding of the subject being promoted. Building trust, tailoring communication to different stakeholder needs, and maintaining enthusiasm over time are key hurdles. To address these challenges, it's important to develop strong storytelling skills, actively seek feedback, and collaborate closely with product, marketing, and community teams to align messaging. Regularly attending industry events and staying current with trends also helps maintain credibility and effectiveness in the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an evangelism manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Evangelism Manager, you need deep expertise in a specific product or domain, strong public speaking abilities, and a background in marketing or community engagement. Familiarity with digital communication platforms, content creation tools, and analytics software is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, passion, and the ability to build and nurture communities make someone stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively advocating for a product, fostering user communities, and driving adoption and engagement.

Agentic Engineering Evangelist

Port

Palo Alto, CA • On-site, Remote

$190K - $260K/yr

Full-time

Job description

Description
About Port
Port is the Agentic SDLC Platform. The way engineering teams build software is constantly evolving, and every new wave - such as AI agents operating across the SDLC - makes engineering more powerful, but also more complex and chaotic.
Port turns that chaos into control: one platform to build, govern, and operate the software development lifecycle, enabling every team to move as fast as technology allows.
Following our $100M Series C funding round, we are entering an exciting stage of significant growth and global expansion. As a product-led company, we believe the recipe for success is a world-class product that speaks for itself.
The Role: Agentic-SDLC Evangelist
Port is growing fast, and we are looking for a Technical Video Creator & Evangelist to become the face and voice of Port across the tech community. If you love staying ahead of tech trends, hacking on new features, and translating complex AI concepts into short, highly engaging, and easy-to-digest videos, this is your sandbox.
Your mission is to be the ultimate influencer for the Agentic-SDLC movement. You will bridge the gap between deep technical engineering and light, high-energy storytelling. Through short-form video content, you will show developers, DevOps teams, and platform engineers how Port turns manual chaos into autonomous, AI-assisted magic.
This role requires a unique mix of engineering know-how, charismatic on-camera presence, and a naturally positive, community-first vibe.
As part of your responsibilities you will:
  • Own the Screen: Host, script, and produce short, high-quality, and engaging technical videos (think YouTube Shorts, TikTok/Reels style, LinkedIn videos, and quick feature drops).
  • Deconstruct the Tech: Take brand-new features, complex customer use cases, and Agentic AI market trends and turn them into "light, easy-to-listen-to" stories.
  • Build the Hype: Evangelize the concept of Agentic-SDLC, positioning Port as the go-to platform for the future of AI-driven engineering.
  • Get Hands-On: Configure your own lightweight demo environments to use as visual backdrops for your videos and tutorials.
  • Engage the Community: Foster a welcoming, positive vibe online by interacting with comments, tracking developer sentiment, and collaborating with external tech creators.
  • Partner Internally: Team up with Product, Sales, and Engineering to catch wind of cool new features and use cases before they even launch.

Requirements
  • The Vibe: A naturally positive, high-energy communicator who genuinely loves tech and connects effortlessly with developer communities.
  • The Reel: A proven portfolio of creating engaging video content (technical tutorials, dev vlogs, tech TikToks/Reels, or streaming) that makes complex topics feel simple and fun.
  • 5+ years of technical experience: Background as a Technical Marketer, Developer Advocate, Sales Engineer, or a DevOps/Platform engineer who secretly always wanted to be a creator.
  • Technical Foundation: Comfort working close to the product, including APIs, cloud-native architectures, and DevOps/CI-CD workflows.
  • Storytelling Chops: Ability to look at a raw feature or a dry technical document and instantly see the "cool hook" that will make a developer stop scrolling.
  • Self-Starter Setup: Basic proficiency with rapid video editing tools (CapCut, Premiere, Descript, etc.) to keep content output fast, fresh, and punchy.

Nice to Have
  • An existing public profile, blog, YouTube channel, or active social media presence in the DevOps, Platform Engineering, or AI space.
  • Hands-on experience with modern tools like GitHub/GitLab, Kubernetes, Terraform, or cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Deep curiosity about Agentic AI, LLMs, and how autonomous agents are changing the software development lifecycle
