How to become a remote ETL Informatica developer?

The qualifications that you need to start working as a remote ETL Informatica developer include computer and database maintenance skills and an understanding of Informatica software and Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes. Most employers expect at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer information systems. These positions also require SQL programming abilities. Informatica also offers professional certifications. You can pursue specialist certification as an Informatica PowerCenter Developer, an Informatica PowerCenter Administrator, or developer who specializes in data quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote ETL Informatica developer?

To thrive as an ETL Informatica Developer (Remote), you need strong SQL skills, data warehousing knowledge, and experience with Informatica PowerCenter, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with databases like Oracle or SQL Server, version control systems, and certifications such as Informatica Certified Professional are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective remote communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure efficient data integration, high-quality deliverables, and smooth collaboration in distributed teams.

What are some common challenges ETL Informatica developers face when working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote ETL Informatica Developers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams across different time zones, ensuring secure access to sensitive data, and troubleshooting complex data issues without immediate onsite support. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels, use secure VPNs or remote desktop solutions for accessing development environments, and participate in regular virtual meetings to stay aligned with project goals. Leveraging collaborative tools and maintaining thorough documentation also helps in overcoming remote work obstacles and ensures smooth project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Own the firm's enterprise data platform and data lineage strategy, including cataloging and lineage tracking across Snowflake and MuleSoft-connected systems.
  • Design, build, and manage the Snowflake data warehouse, including account structure, warehouse architecture, and role-based access controls.
  • Develop scalable ELT/ETL pipelines and data models using Snowpipe, Streams and Tasks, dbt, and related technologies to support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Establish Snowflake security, governance, data masking, performance tuning, and cost optimization practices.
  • Lead the adoption and implementation of MuleSoft, designing APIs and integration flows that connect the firm's critical business applications.
  • Define enterprise integration architecture standards and manage the full lifecycle of integrations, from design and development through deployment, monitoring, and support.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies while monitoring data quality, security, and reliability across the organization.
  • Maintain documentation for data architecture, integrations, mappings, and lineage to support operational and audit requirements.
  • Serve as the firm's subject matter expert for data platform and integration architecture, partnering with stakeholders and leadership to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Own the technology roadmap for continued platform maturity and evaluate emerging technologies to support future growth.
  • Support enterprise applications, reporting, dashboards, analytics initiatives, and firmwide technology projects.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform and integration issues while serving as the primary escalation point for related technologies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, systems integration, platform development, or related disciplines, including experience building enterprise data and integration environments from the ground up.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, Java, or DataWeave.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines, enterprise data models, and cloud-based data warehouse solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake or comparable cloud data warehouse platforms such as Databricks, Redshift, or BigQuery, including administration, performance tuning, and role-based security.
  • Experience with enterprise integration or iPaaS platforms, ideally MuleSoft, including API design and development using REST, SOAP, and RAML/OAS specifications.
  • Strong understanding of API-led connectivity, reusable API design, integration architecture patterns, and application networks.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata management, data quality, data cataloging, and data lineage tools such as Snowflake Horizon Catalog, Atlan, Collibra, or Alation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, event-driven architecture, and messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka.
  • Proven ability to independently lead technology initiatives from requirements gathering through architecture, implementation, deployment, and ongoing operational support.
  • Experience with legal technology platforms such as Fulcrum, Intapp, NetDocuments, Aderant, or Elite, or experience within a professional services or legal environment, is preferred.
  • Relevant technical certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, are a plus.
