The Construction Estimator is a critical driver of profitability and project viability. In this role, you will own the quantification process, transform complex architectural visions into precise financial blueprints, and strategically mitigate risk before breaking ground. You are not just calculating numbers; you are engineering competitive advantages that win profitable work.
Job Responsibilities for the Construction Estimator:
  • Review architectural drawings, structural plans, and project specifications to identify potential issues or costs.
  • Review projects before bidding to understand the scope of work, requirements, and potential risks.
  • Calculate the materials, labor, and other costs needed to complete a project.
  • Work with Project Managers to evaluate design changes and determine the cost of change orders.
  • Maintain a database of historical material, labor, and regional pricing information.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to get accurate pricing and confirm the work they will perform.
  • Prepare detailed and competitive project bids and proposals for clients.
  • Create preliminary project schedules to determine if the project can be completed successfully and on time.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and visit job sites to understand project conditions and identify potential risks.
Qualifications for the Construction Estimator:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a related technical field.
