Job description

We are seeking tutor/mentors for our Student Support Services–ESL (SSS–ESL) Summer Enrichment program. Tutor/mentors should have strong interpersonal skills and communication skills to support students in the SSS–ESL program. The primary responsibilities of a tutor/mentor are to serve as role models in supporting students through individual and group meetings toward their success. Tutor/mentors guide students in ensuring they feel a sense of belonging to the program and college and help facilitate a welcoming environment for personal growth and success.

Tutoring/Mentoring Training is June 1st- June 4th and June 8th- June 11th.

The Summer Enrichment Program is Monday through Thursday from June 23rd through July 23rd.

This is a part-time, hourly position.


Example of Duties

  • Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
  • Participate in Staff Meetings, tutor/mentor training, and professional development activities to continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.
  • Facilitate group workshop sessions.
  • Reinforce collegiate skills including time management, communication and networking, and study strategies.
  • Conduct check-in meetings with tutees/mentees and maintain regular outreach.
  • Assist in the development of skills necessary for students to succeed both personally and academically.
  • Assist students in developing career/academic goals and expectations.
  • Participate in the planning of enrichment activities.
  • Evaluate and document tutoring/mentoring experiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

  • Ability to work in a team environment coordinating needed student services


The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation: The hourly pay for this position is $16.

  • New Jersey Sick Leave: Earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked with a maximum of 40 hours of leave per benefit year. (Eligible to use after successful completion of probationary period.)
