Job description

Description of Program:

 The ESL Program is a core component of South Central LAMP's Family Literacy Program, serving mothers of young children. The program provides beginning through intermediate English language instruction in a supportive, culturally responsive environment that values and respects students' native languages and experiences.

In addition to developing English language proficiency, the program promotes women's empowerment, self-advocacy, leadership development, and community engagement. Through English language acquisition and practical life skills, students build the confidence and knowledge necessary to achieve personal, vocational, academic, and citizenship goals while supporting their children's education and development.

 Job Summary:

Compensation: $20-25.00/hour

Target Start Date: 08/10/2026

This part-time position at South Central LAMP entails working from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, totaling 15 hours per week.

The ESL Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, learner-centered English language instruction to adult students enrolled in the Family Literacy Program. Instruction should support the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment. The teacher will incorporate real-world communication skills, family literacy concepts, and topics related to personal growth, leadership, and women's empowerment.

The ESL Teacher assesses student progress, provides individualized support, integrates technology into instruction, and collaborates with program staff to support student success. This position requires flexibility, cultural responsiveness, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to helping adult learners achieve their educational and personal goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

       Support and promote the mission, vision, and values of South Central LAMP.

       Plan and deliver engaging ESL instruction for adult learners at beginning through intermediate levels.

       Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with California Adult Education standards.

       Integrate family literacy, parent leadership, self-advocacy, and women's empowerment concepts into instruction as appropriate.

       Assess student progress and provide individualized feedback and support.

       Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.

       Administer CASAS assessments and maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and student records.

       Utilize instructional technology and effective classroom management strategies to support student learning.

       Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

       Prepare substitute lesson plans and perform other duties as assigned.

       Follow all South Central LAMP policies, procedures, and program requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications:

       Bachelor's degree or higher.

       2 years' experience teaching English to adult students. 

       TB Clearance

       Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.
