Support/Hourly - Position - Classroom Assistant Billingual - Elementary

Role and Purpose:
  • To assist in the implementation of the instructional program for each student.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution

Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Speaks a second language.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Work cooperatively with principal, program director, bilingual pullout teachers and regular education teachers to insure the success of the students.
  • Follow established schedule-the teacher of the program is responsible for formulating the schedule of the assistant(s). The assistant then works under the direction of the teacher responsible for the particular instructional block of time.
  • Interact with students appropriately.
  • Assist teacher in total instructional program, one to one or small group instruction.
  • Maintain structured classroom routine when teacher in present, out of classroom or when working with a substitute teacher.
  • Perform designated record keeping tasks.
  • Operate duplicating, thermo fax, laminating machines and audio-visual equipment.
  • Help keep classroom orderly and attractive.
  • Decorate bulletin boards.
  • Participate in staff and faculty meeting as requested.
  • Participate in parent meetings/conferences as requested.
  • Participate in in-service training in order to understand and implement curriculum.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by teacher, lead teacher, and/or principal.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of BIL/ESL.
