Job description

Location: Napa, California (In-Office, 4 days per week)

Folio Wine is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Finance team by managing the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, inventory accounting, compliance, and internal controls.  The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, prior wine industry experience, and expertise with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (ERP). This is a hands-on role, and the right candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, operationally minded, and comfortable working both strategically and tactically within the business and has a passion for fine wine who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet analyses
  • Assist with preparation of internal financial statements, management reporting, and variance analyses
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities
  • Manage inventory accounting processes including wine bulk inventory, bottled goods, dry goods, depletion, and COGS analysis
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and production teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and reporting
  • Support cost accounting processes related to production, bottling, and distribution
  • Serve as a key accounting resource for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • Assist with ERP process improvements, reporting enhancements, and system optimization initiatives
  • Troubleshoot accounting and reporting issues within Business Central and collaborate with internal teams and external partners as needed
  • Help drive automation and process efficiencies across accounting operations
  • Support annual financial audits, tax preparation, and compliance reporting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable wine industry regulations
  • Assist with sales tax, excise tax, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Support documentation and maintenance of internal controls and audit readiness
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA designation preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in the wine industry
  • Strong understanding of inventory and cost accounting
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial systems aptitude
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be resourceful and flexible
  • Ability to balance multiple demands, prioritize tasks, and retain clear focus
  • Wine industry compliance and regulatory knowledge
  • Multi-entity or distributor/supplier accounting experience
  • Experience supporting process improvement and ERP optimization initiatives
  • This position is office 4 days per week, located in Napa
