ER Tech-Nursing Emergency Room Department

Night Shift

Position Purpose:

  • Provides basic care to patients under the direct supervision of a nurse, including, but not limited to, activities of daily living, obtaining and documenting vital signs, maintaining & stock supplies, applying simple dressings and other basic treatment as delegated by the nurse.  Care is provided safely, effectively, and efficiently.  

Essential Functions:

  • Performs basic nursing care based upon patients’ age-related needs. Care includes, but is not limited to activities of daily living, obtaining and documenting vital signs, applying simple dressings and other basic treatment as delegated by the nurse.  Care is provided safely, effectively, and efficiently.  35%
  • Ensures that the patient and other rooms are kept clean and orderly as instructed by nursing.  25%
  • Observes patients' condition and reports changes to the nurse.  Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.  10%
  • Accurately orders supply for the department. Assuring that the par levels are adequate and communicates any need for changes in supplies.  10%
  • Performs the quality measures and the testing for Point of care testing in the department.  5%
  • Performs clerical duties related to order entry, registration, discharge and other duties as assigned in the absence of coordinators.  3%
  • Assists in transporting patients throughout the organization.  2%
  • Collects capillary and venous specimens from patients and/or establishes IV access, assuring correct identity of the patients using aseptic techniques; handles patients efficiently and professionally.  10%

General Job Requirements:

  • Eligible candidates should be a student nurse in a program, an EMT or have completed a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant program.
  • 1-3 years of related experience, preferably in the ER
  • EKG and phlebotomy skills preferred
  • CPR certification required
