Job Description:
InGenesis is currently seeking skilled Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ER) to work at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. In this role, you will support a high-acuity military medical center that operates around the clock, delivering emergency nursing, triage, and critical patient support. This position requires adaptability, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to thrive in an intensive, fast-paced environment. Various shifts available
Key Responsibilities
General Nursing Duties
  • Perform comprehensive triage, patient assessment, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Carry out physician orders within standard nursing practice.
  • Provide patient education, discharge instructions, and emotional support.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and follow infection-control standards.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations using established protocols.
  • Utilize clinical systems (ADS, Essentris, MHS Genesis, CIS).
  • Support and guide LPNs/LVNs, medical assistants, corpsmen, and ancillary staff.
  • Document all care accurately and in accordance with MTF policies.
Emergency Department / Transfer Center Duties
  • Assist physicians with emergency procedures.
  • Continuously assess patients for urgent or life-threatening conditions and document treatment responses.
  • Operate and interpret hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
  • Perform or assist with:
    • IV cannulation and venipuncture
    • Central and arterial line support
    • Arterial blood gas sampling
    • Foley catheter and gastric tube placement
    • Moderate IV conscious sedation support
  • Complete and maintain competency in ED-specific triage and skills.
  • Participate in required specialty trainings (Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center, skills fairs, etc.).
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (NLNAC, CCNE, ACEN, or state-accredited).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum 1 year of emergency nursing experience after graduation.
  • Current, full, active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Must maintain the following Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC and/or ATCN (trauma nursing certification)
