Job description

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment & Fleet Operations Lead – Texas serves as the local extension of the Equipment Department and the primary field-facing liaison between Texas operations, vendors, and the broader Equipment team.

Reporting directly to the Director of Fleet & Facilities, this position works closely with field leadership to understand equipment and fleet needs, coordinate service and repairs, support rental and fleet activity, manage vendor follow-through, and help ensure equipment-related issues are identified and resolved efficiently.

This is not a desk-based coordination role. The successful candidate will spend significant time in the field visiting active jobsites, building relationships with foremen and superintendents, meeting with equipment dealers and service providers, and developing a firsthand understanding of operational needs and challenges.

The role is designed for an experienced equipment or fleet professional who is ready to take on broader responsibility and grow beyond day-to-day coordination. As the organization continues to expand, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop into a larger equipment and fleet leadership role based on performance, capability, and business needs.

What You Will Do

· Serve as the local field-facing representative of the Equipment Department throughout the greater Houston area.

· Regularly visit active jobsites to meet with foremen and superintendents, understand equipment and vehicle needs, and identify service, repair, rental, utilization, or operational issues.

· Build strong working relationships with field leadership and serve as a trusted connection between Texas operations and the broader Equipment Department.

· Assess equipment and fleet issues, gather relevant information, and help coordinate the appropriate response, including service, repair, rental, replacement recommendations, or escalation.

· Coordinate service and repair activities with internal teams, dealers, rental companies, and third-party vendors.

· Develop and maintain productive relationships with local equipment dealers, vehicle service providers, rental companies, and other key vendors.

· Follow up on open issues and vendor commitments to ensure work is completed and problems do not fall through the cracks.

· Help identify underutilized assets, unnecessary rentals, recurring equipment or vehicle issues, and other opportunities to improve fleet performance and control costs.

· Support the coordination of equipment moves, rentals, service schedules, inspections, and other operational needs.

· Communicate field conditions, asset needs, and emerging issues clearly and consistently to the Director of Fleet & Facilities and the broader Equipment team.

· Maintain accurate records and documentation related to equipment and fleet activity, repairs, vendors, and follow-up actions.

· Reinforce established Equipment Department processes and communication channels while remaining accessible and responsive to field operations.

· Make day-to-day coordination decisions within established guidelines and escalate significant financial, operational, or asset decisions as appropriate.

· Participate in the continued development of equipment and fleet processes, systems, and best practices as the organization grows.

What We Are Looking For

· 3–6 years of experience in heavy equipment, construction, fleet operations, equipment rental, dealership operations, field service, or a related environment preferred.

· Experience coordinating equipment or vehicle service, repairs, vendors, or field operations preferred.

· Working knowledge of heavy construction equipment and/or fleet operations, with the ability to understand common service and operational issues.

· Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with field personnel, vendors, and leadership.

· Strong organizational skills and demonstrated follow-through.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving field environment.

· Sound judgment and the ability to recognize when to act, when to gather more information, and when to escalate.

· Comfortable working independently while remaining closely aligned with a broader team.

· Willingness to spend significant time in the field and travel throughout the greater Houston area.

· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

· Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is required.

The Opportunity to Grow

This position offers direct exposure to the leadership and operation of a large, multi-state equipment and fleet organization. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Fleet & Facilities and gain broader experience across:

· Rentals and utilization

· Vendor and dealer relationships

· Cost management and operational performance

· Fleet technology, systems, and process improvement

· Long-term equipment and fleet planning and strategy

· Comprehensive benefits package

· Paid time off

· Paid holidays

· Additional company benefits in accordance with company plans and policies

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position involves a combination of field and office work. The employee will regularly travel to job sites and vendor locations throughout Texas. Field work may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction environments, and equipment operations.

The employee may be required to stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift materials up to 25 pounds. Work must be performed in compliance with OSHA and applicable state safety regulations, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
