Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
To provide mental health services to UNCP students.
Primary Purpose of Position
To provide direct therapeutic and diagnostic counseling and/or education to students experiencing social, emotional, and/or academic concerns. The role also supports the CAPS team's prevention and intervention efforts, serves on appropriate university committees, and completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services. This is a 11-month position.
Job Description
The position is responsible for providing therapeutic and diagnostic counseling and/or education to students experiencing social, emotional, and academic concerns related to mental health, administering and interpreting assessment instruments for the diagnosis of mental illness, and supporting the CAPS team's prevention and intervention work through direct clinical services, outreach to the university community, and participation in Student Affairs events and committees. To complete other duties as assigned by the Director of the Counseling and Psychological Services. This is a 11-month position.
Mandatory Personnel: this position's presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
Management Preference
To possess at least a Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field, preferably from a CACREP or an APA accredited program. To have some experience in counseling within an educational setting, college/university preferred. To have credentials as a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor or North Carolina Licensed Clinical Social Worker or equivalent credentials. Full licensure or provisional with anticipated full licensure within two years is acceptable.
Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation
NC Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) or NC Licensed Practicing Psychologist or equivalent credential. Provisionally licensed candidates will be considered if they have the experience required for the position and anticipated full licensure within two years.
