What is the work of an epidemiologist?
What is the difference between Epidemiologist vs Public Health Analyst?
| Aspect | Epidemiologist | Public Health Analyst |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Master's in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field; often certifications in epidemiology | Bachelor's or Master's in Public Health, Health Sciences, or related fields; some roles may require certifications |
| Work Environment | Research settings, healthcare facilities, government agencies, labs | Policy analysis, program evaluation, data analysis in government or nonprofit sectors |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Public health departments, research institutions, hospitals | Government agencies, NGOs, health policy organizations |
While both roles focus on public health, epidemiologists primarily investigate disease patterns and causes, often conducting research and field studies. Public health analysts analyze data and develop policies to improve health outcomes. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

What is an epidemiologist?
An epidemiologist is a public health professional who studies the patterns and causes of diseases. They conduct epidemiological studies to help understand, manage, and improve public health in a particular population. These studies help educate the public and influence decisions about best practices in treatment, resource allocation, and policy. They may work for government agencies, hospitals, and research institutions. Most epidemiologists specialize in a particular field of public health, such as infectious diseases, cancer, infant mortality, or substance addiction.
