Job Description

The Supervisor, Technical Operations Center is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of scheduled and live broadcast operations, ensuring transmission systems, equipment, and workflows operate reliably across studio, field, and remote environments. This role provides operational leadership, technical oversight, and timely resolution of broadcast issues to ensure continuity and quality of service.

Job Duties:

  • Oversees the development, implementation, and delivery of operational solutions, including system planning, resource coordination, deployment, installation, testing, and implementation within the Technical Operations Center and provides hands on technical support.
  • Oversees and helps plan the execution of the day-to-day activities, assignments, staffing requirements, and operational concerns of the Video Control Operations, Media Management Operations, and Technical Operations teams.
  • Ensures operational and technical services consistently meet or exceed internal customer and business expectations, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Maintains team knowledge and technical capabilities through ongoing training, cross-training, documentation, and implementation of new technologies, workflows, systems, and operational procedures.
  • Partners with department leadership on managing operational capacity and resource planning to ensure appropriate staffing, technical resources, and infrastructure are available to support daily operations, special events, and evolving business requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves operational processes, procedures, and standards to increase efficiency, reliability, consistency, and overall operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with senior management and technical leadership to execute strategic initiatives, identify opportunities for improvement, and re-engineer operational workflows and processes when appropriate.
  • Participates in operational transformation, technology implementation, infrastructure upgrades, and continuous-improvement projects while performing additional responsibilities as business needs require.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with News, Sports, Entertainment, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders, as well as external partners, service providers, and vendors.
  • Supports the development of technicians and engineers to maintain a high level of technical proficiency, operational readiness, and consistent execution of established procedures and standards.
  • Maintains the ability to effectively perform operator-level roles and responsibilities as operational needs require.
  • Works under the direct supervision of Director, Technical Operations and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by Manager or Supervisor as needed
Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in broadcast operations, transmission operations, technical operations, broadcast engineering, or a related television/media environment, including demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Fluent English and Spanish (both written & verbal) 

  • Exhibits strong technical knowledge of broadcast transmission workflows and infrastructure, including IP-based video transport, satellite, fiber-optic networks, bonded cellular technology, and other contribution and distribution platforms.
  • Advanced understanding of IP transmission technologies and protocols, including SRT, RTMP/UDP, multicast/unicast workflows, network addressing, port configuration, signal routing, and troubleshooting of IP-based contribution feeds.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting satellite, fiber, IP, and bonded transmission paths for live and recorded broadcast operations.
  • Strong understanding of broadcast video and audio standards, including video formats, frame rates, encoding/decoding, audio embedding and mapping, signal conversion, synchronization, and quality-control practices.
  • Prior experience working within a Technical Operations Center, Network Operations Center, Master Control, Transmission Operations Center, or comparable mission-critical broadcast environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical and operational issues under time-sensitive conditions while maintaining continuity of live broadcast operations.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience supervising, training, mentoring, and developing technical and operational personnel.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous live events, transmission paths, technical resources, and operational priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changing operational priorities, emergency situations, transmission failures, and other time-sensitive broadcast issues while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.

Additional Requirements

  • This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
  • Must be willing to work in Miami, Florida
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • The candidate must be willing to work flexible hours including late and/or last-minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 production work environment.
  • Must be available to work (whenever necessary for show production) early mornings, evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
