JOB SUMMARY
Location: Clements University Hospital Laboratory and DFW Metroplex Satellite Facilities

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your expertise while supporting a wide array of clinical diagnostic workflows across our UTSW service lines.

What You'll Do:

As an Epic Beaker Analyst, you'll be a vital part of our team, contributing to the seamless operation and enhancement of our laboratory systems. Your responsibilities will include:

System Support: Provide comprehensive support for various laboratory testing domains, including Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services, Coagulation, Pathology, Cytogenetics, Cytology, Flow Cytometry, Histology/IHC, HLA, Molecular Diagnostics, Neuropathology, NGS, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.
Application Oversight: Manage and support third-party laboratory applications that are crucial for clinical diagnostic workflows.
Epic Beaker Expertise: Primarily support performing laboratory departments with Epic Beaker CP and AP, assisting with procedure updates and system build activities. You'll also provide secondary support for the alternate Epic Beaker module (AP or CP, depending on your primary discipline).
Project Contribution: Serve as a junior support to project leads, actively participating in LIS initiatives and system enhancements using Agile methodology and the Scrum framework.
Documentation & Quality: Contribute to LIS documentation (workflows, tip sheets, troubleshooting guides), drive quality improvement initiatives, and assist with reviewing and authoring HSIR and LIS policies.
Accreditation & Expansion: Act as a liaison for accreditation activities related to LIS system management and support laboratory expansion projects, including third-party ordering, client billing workflows, and new satellite locations.
Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the Laboratory department manager on initiatives that align clinical diagnostics with our information technology strategy.

  • Experience with Epic Beaker CP and Epic Beaker AP.
  • Proficiency with middleware and instrument management software.
  • Clinical laboratory experience is essential, preferably as a Medical Technologist (Med Tech).
  • A strong understanding of internal laboratory processes is critical for success in this role.
  • Certifications: Certification in any Epic clinical application will be a significant advantage.
  • Team Player: A desire to be a mentee to senior analysts, contributing to team growth, collaborative problem-solving, and informed decision-making.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education
    Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, information systems, or related field.
  • Experience
    3 years progressively responsible business systems and/or Information Technology project experience, with exposure to systems or project development and testing, installation, and training.
    Applicants without the stated degree, but with significant additional Information Technology systems and project experience, may be considered.

JOB DUTIES

  • Collects and interprets specifications required to develop new, and revise existing, software applications.
  • Assists managers with development and implementation of operational plans for new and existing business applications, including preparation of user specifications.
  • Coordinates testing of new applications and changes to existing applications to ensure integrity and quality of data while providing and/or assisting in training of system users.
  • Compiles complete, concise, and comprehensive policies and operation procedures to assist in communicating Information Resources issues to applicable management staff.
  • Assists in development of new administrative procedures required, utilizing new functionality resulting from system changes.
  • Assists in developing and implementing business Information Resources strategies to improve operational processing and productivity.
  • Responsible for monitoring development of specifications and establishing priorities for accomplishing design and testing of various projects.
  • Reviews, develops, recommends, and implements activities related to assigned activity, program, or function.
  • Maintains and tracks accounts assigned to projects or programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
