Epic Clarity Developer information

What is an Epic Clarity developer?

Epic Clarity Developers are specialized IT professionals who design, develop, and maintain data solutions within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system, specifically using the Clarity database. They create complex SQL queries, build and optimize data extracts, and work closely with analysts and clinicians to ensure data accuracy and meet reporting requirements. Their role is crucial for healthcare organizations to generate actionable insights from patient and operational data stored in Epic. Additionally, they often collaborate with other teams to support data integration, performance tuning, and regulatory compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Epic Clarity developer?

To thrive as an Epic Clarity Developer, you need strong SQL programming, data analysis skills, and a solid understanding of healthcare data and workflows, usually supported by a relevant degree and Epic Clarity certification. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for designing accurate reports and ensuring data integrity, which support clinical and business decision-making in healthcare organizations.

  • Experience working with large healthcare data sets in a relational database environment.

  • Ability to translate technical data structures into clear business and analytical definitions.

  • Experience partnering with data engineers, architects, application analysts, business stakeholders, and clinical SMEs.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with Epic Caboodle and Epic-delivered analytical content.

  • Experience with Healthy Planet, population health, accountable care, payer analytics, or value-based care.

  • Experience integrating Epic data with medical claims, pharmacy claims, eligibility, attribution, or payer-supplied data.

  • Experience with Exasol or another enterprise analytical database.

  • Experience using DBeaver, SQL Server Management Studio, or comparable SQL development tools.

  • Experience supporting an Azure-based healthcare data or analytics platform.

  • Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, or related technologies.

  • Experience developing or validating quality, utilization, risk, cost, or shared-savings calculations.
