Registered Nurse (RN) – PACUPosition Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to surgical patients recovering from anesthesia while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes. Candidates must have current experience using the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assess, monitor, and care for patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and procedural interventions.

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, pain assessment, and neurological status.

  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.

  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.

  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care.

  • Educate patients and families regarding post-operative care, discharge instructions, medications, and follow-up care.

  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient outcomes using the Epic EMR system.

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency through continuing education.

Required Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of recent PACU, Critical Care (ICU), Emergency Department (ED), or perioperative nursing experience.

  • Current experience documenting in the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system is required.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, if required by the facility.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) certification.

  • Previous experience in a high-volume surgical or ambulatory surgery center.

  • Experience caring for adult and pediatric post-anesthesia patients.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery standards, pain management, and emergency response protocols.

  • Proficiency with Epic EMR documentation and clinical workflows.

  • Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and teamwork.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.

  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform nursing procedures and operate medical equipment.

Work Environment
