Environmental Techs, or Environmental Technicians, are professionals who collect samples, perform tests, and monitor environmental conditions to help ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They often work in labs or in the field, analyzing air, water, and soil for pollutants or hazardous materials. Their work supports environmental scientists and engineers in efforts to protect the environment and public health. Environmental Techs may also assist in environmental cleanup projects and help maintain environmental monitoring equipment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an environmental tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Environmental Tech, you need knowledge of environmental science, sampling procedures, and regulatory standards, typically supported by an associate’s degree or higher in environmental technology or a related field. Familiarity with lab analysis equipment, GIS software, and environmental monitoring tools is often required, along with relevant certifications such as HAZWOPER.
