Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking Environmental Inspectors with Qualified Stormwater Practitioner certifications; ideally with experience, who will work with Stantec's Environmental groups out of various offices (Petaluma, Roseville, San Jose, and Stockton). The successful candidates will provide field and technical support services on a variety of projects relating to water and waste management, and other environmental programs and may work in our Central and/or Northern California offices.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document field data collection activities; assist in the completion of project level work (daily timesheets and work plans, data management, analyze field and technical data, and report preparation) on various projects.
  • Conduct multi-media sampling (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, wastewater, naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs) etc.).
  • Completion of fieldwork, including documenting site activities, soil and groundwater sampling, soil characterization, monitoring water quality, and discharging water to surface.
  • Providing scheduling review and support of upcoming field work.
  • Performing project risk reviews related to anticipated waste generator.
  • Prepare appropriate health and safety documents and participate in client health and safety meetings and adhere to Stantec's and our clients' safety procedures.
  • Prepare daily summary emails and site diagrams and submit reports to online reporting systems.
  • Learn and follow standard operation procedures for work assigned.
  • Schedule, conduct, and document environmental and stormwater inspections.
  • Provide QSP or delegate support to various projects / programs.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Show initiative in integrating creativity and innovation in all work tasks
  • Experience with Microsoft word and excel.
  • Motivated/driven, conscientious, organized, and disciplined.
  • Working experience at active construction sites.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
  • Willing to travel and able to be out-of-town for extended periods of time.
  • Night and weekend work will be required.
  • Experience in environmental sampling, construction stormwater and environmental compliance monitoring.
  • Use of in-field sampling / testing equipment such as pH monitors, HACH meters, colorimetric test kits, etc.
  • Strong communication skills and be able to speak clearly, confidently, and effectively with construction contractors, project team Ability to understand a project's environmental compliance needs, identify issues of non-compliance, coordinate to ensure needed corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner and follow through to ensure overall project success and compliance.

Experience, Education and Credentials
  • College degree with a concentration in earth science, geology, hydrology, natural or environmental science, or engineering from an accredited college preferred.
  • 40-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
  • 10-hour OSHA Construction training.
  • Current certification as a CAC or CSST is beneficial but not required (if not already acquired, we would like you to obtain after being hired).
  • QSP certification required; QSD is beneficial but not required.
  • 2-5 years of experience in the environmental compliance sector, ideally with stormwater permitting knowledge. Field work is likely to include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and heavy equipment.

Pay Range:
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$62,500.00 - $90,600.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas-$67,000.00 - $97,200.00 Annually
• Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP)-$71,600.00 - $103,800.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
