A Day in the Life

As an Environmental Laboratory Manager - Stack, you'll be responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory. This position is responsible for training, mentoring, and delegating responsibilities to junior laboratory staff and quality control of data. This position works with reporting and field-testing teams to ensure data quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of laboratory data.

The compensation range for this role is $90k to $115k.

To thrive in this role, you'll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Following established testing methods, procedures, and processes to help support consistent and reliable source testing
  • Receiving environmental samples collected from field testing
  • Preparation of samples for analysis and preparation of reagents for lab use and/or shipment
  • Calibrating laboratory instruments
  • Maintaining organized records of sample preparation and analysis
  • Interpreting and documenting data obtained from analysis
  • Preparing laboratory analysis reports
  • Reviewing laboratory analysis data and reports for accuracy
  • Delivering accurate and on-time results to Project Managers
  • Maintaining laboratory expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Assisting field testing teams in acquiring and inventorying consumables, chemicals, and parts for instrumentation and preparing laboratory equipment kits for use in field tests
  • Working with field crews on-site with sample preparation and recovery
  • Oversee and train Laboratory Technician(s) and/or Assistant(s)
  • Practice safety methods and procedures and report all potential dangers and hazards
Your Expertise and Skills

  • 2+ years minimum of stack testing experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
  • High School diploma is acceptable where experience and related skills can be demonstrated
  • Must have 2+ years of experience leading a team
  • Must have 4+ years of experience working in a laboratory setting
  • Knowledge of Stack Testing analytical methods, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety
  • Proficient with Google and Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability/willingness for occasional overnight and local travel
  • Valid Driver's License is required
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical certification and OSHA Respiratory Protection Medical Evaluation

  • Often works outdoors and may be exposed to hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions, including sunlit, rainy and windy conditions
