Job description

Student Biology Lab Assistant
Position Overview: Student Biology Laboratory Assistants support Science Faculty by preparing, cleaning, and maintaining laboratory spaces and play an important role in promoting the Science Department's mission of giving students hands-on experience in laboratory settings. Averages 4-5 hours per week.
Essential Duties:
  • Prepare and collect supplies and reagents to be used in their assigned labs.
  • Communicate with faculty about lab conditions that need faculty attention (ordering supplies, equipment maintenance, etc).
  • Maintain clean lab and prep spaces.
  • Wash and put away used glassware.
  • Assist faculty with lab maintenance related projects.

Working Conditions: Student biology lab assistants will be working with a range of chemicals including acids/bases, oxidizing agents, flammable liquids, and solids. All necessary training, personal protective equipment, safety equipment, and hazardous waste disposal containers will be provided.
To be eligible to be a CSP student employee, one must:
  • Be enrolled and registered as a CSP student (PSEO students are not eligible).
  • Have a United States social security number.*
  • Have proper identification as determined by Form I-9.
  • Be in good standing with CSP academic requirements and student accounts.
  • Have declared a major at CSP.
  • For summer employment, priority will be given to the student employees who are enrolled and registered in summer courses.
