Job description

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.  The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson's environmental management efforts for Civil, Solar, Wind and High Voltage Transmission Groups' projects throughout North America, providing review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.

This individual can be based out of either our Portland, OR or Seattle, WA office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement Mortenson's environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities.  Essential requirements:

  • Develop site specific environmental plans and activities

  • Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings

  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations

  • Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs

  • Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management

  • Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections

  • Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial and local) reporting and documentation requirements

  • Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures

  • Interface with customer's environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc.

  • Assist in the development company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field 

  • Minimum of four years related experience

  • Significant experience with two or more of the following areas: erosion prevention and sediment control, storm water pollution prevention plans, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, wetlands, endangered species

  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and local laws, policies and procedures

  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player

  • Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies 

  • Ability to use PC, tablets and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word)

  • Current driver's license

  • Able to travel up to 50%

The base pay range for this role is $89,500 - $120,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
