Job description

Job Title: Transportation Planner/Design Engineer I

Job Summary:

DJ&A is seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Entry Level Transportation Planner/Design Engineer. In this position, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of multimodal transportation plans and designs to enhance safety and sustainability. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in transportation planning and design. Must be a motivated self-starter who embraces the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across the U.S. Must be team oriented and possess a desire to learn and grow with the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the collection and analysis of transportation data, including traffic counts, travel behavior surveys, and demographic information.
  • Conduct research and assist in the evaluation of transportation projects, policies, and programs.
  • Support the development of transportation plans, including safety plans, corridor studies, and multimodal transportation plans.
  • Collaborate with senior planners and engineers to analyze transportation issues and propose innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and technical documents related to transportation planning projects.
  • Assist in the coordination of public outreach activities, including community meetings and workshops.
  • Support the development of concept and final design drawings for transportation improvements.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and regulations in transportation planning.
  • Utilize computer software and tools, such as geographic information systems (GIS) and transportation modeling software, to analyze data and support planning efforts.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of traffic impact assessments.

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and analyze transportation data.
  • Proficiency in using computer software and tools such as GIS, transportation modeling software, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with transportation planning principles, practices, and methodologies.
  • Familiarity or Proficieny with AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines related to transportation planning.
  • Familiarity with sustainable transportation practices and principles is desirable.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, or a related field. Relevant coursework or specialization in transportation planning or transportation engineering is preferred.
  • Previous internship or work experience in transportation planning, transportation engineering, or a related field is a plus.
