Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics, the Athletics Program Assistant is responsible for monitoring the day-today operations of the College's Fitness Center. Primary responsibilities for this position include monitoring and demonstrating the use of fitness equipment to ensure proper usage and safety, providing quality customer service to students, faculty, and staff, and the enforcement of fitness center rules and policies.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Oversee and monitor the day-to-day operations of the College's fitness center.
  • Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a helpful and courteous professional manner.
  • Provide direction for the fitness center visitors and enforcement of rules related to facility and equipment usage to maintain a safe environment.
  • Explain principles and techniques to fitness center visitors and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
  • Perform inspection of fitness center facility to maintain cleanliness and order; reporting issues to the Assistant Athletic Director or appropriate department (i.e. Facilities), as needed.
  • Maintain daily visitor sign-in sheets, logs, and class attendance records.
  • Schedule work and aerobics activities and provide training to Athletic Aides and student workers in accomplishing day-to-day tasks and operations within the fitness center.
  • Compile data related to patron usage and patterns.
  • Post and update Fitness Center signage to reflect accurate class days and times, ensuring accessibility for instructors and the campus community.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of fitness mats, equipment, and machines through regular cleaning and care to uphold hygiene standards, escalating any major issues to the attention of the Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Attend home games for volleyball, basketball, and events to assist the Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Athletics with all necessary game-day duties as needed.
  • Support the equipment manager with game-day setup, including water, training room equipment, and preparation of the visiting team's meeting room.
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director in creating and updating fitness center rules and policies.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff or varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals and core values of the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or its equivalent (e.g. GED) required.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience required.
  • Ability to demonstrate and train others in the proper usage of fitness equipment.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required; or must be obtained within first three months of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and perform multiple tasks with changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic background required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree preferred. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Previous professional experience working in a fitness center or similar environment preferred.
  • AED Certification preferred.
  • Basic proficiency using Microsoft Word preferred.
