The Role: Senior Regional Environmental Manager

The Senior Regional Environmental Manager leads environmental compliance programs for Atlanta Campus locations, including operations, construction and commissioning activities. Serve as an environmental compliance authority, driving program ownership, regulatory engagement, and cross-functional collaboration for data center operations, to include serving as a key environmental business partner across construction/commissioning stakeholder teams for Atlanta. Provides subject matter expertise in environmental regulations, operational risk management, permitting, compliance assurance, and environmental incident response to support safe, reliable, and compliant data center operations as well as development and construction of data center projects.

This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Construction, Energy, Legal, Procurement, and external regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements while supporting business growth and operational excellence.

The Senior Regional Environmental Manager role requires extensive experience managing environmental programs associated with large-scale industrial, infrastructure, mission-critical facilities, or data center developments in multiple jurisdictions. This is a crucial role in fostering a strong culture of safety and environmental stewardship across the Atlanta Campus locations.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and implement Switch environmental compliance strategies, policies, procedures, and best management practices across Atlanta data center operations and construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g. CWA, CAA, ESA, RCRA, SPCC, SWPPPs, NEPA, NHPA, USACE, and Stormwater/NPDES)
  • Lead and manage the environmental compliance programs for Switch Atlanta Campus locations, including, but not limited to:
    • Air quality permitting and compliance (e.g. obtain or renew permits; develop compliance schedules, tracking hours of operation, fuel usage, air emissions calculations, reporting and recordkeeping, etc.)
    • Develop and maintain compliant Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
    • Drive NPDES, Storm Water and Wastewater discharge program compliance (e.g. permitting, no exposure, inspections, discharge monitoring, BMP Implementation and reporting)
    • Lead waste compliance management programs, including characterization, handling, storage, transportation and disposal activities
    • Support environmental requirements associated with emergency generators, fuel systems, battery storage systems, cooling infrastructure, water treatment systems, and chemical management programs.
    • Support Emergency Preparedness and Response Programs for Atlanta
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with environmental regulators, consultants, utilities, municipalities, and community stakeholders as needed.
  • Resolve environmental challenges that could impact project schedules, budgets, or permitting obligations.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for construction environmental compliance and project execution.
  • Monitor contractor environmental performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Support agency inspections and responses to regulatory inquiries related to construction projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring third party construction contractors and associated sub-contractors develop and implement comprehensive environmental plans tailored to each construction site and project.
  • Support development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems, compliance assessments and audits to ensure effective risk control and regulatory compliance
  • Participate in General Contractor EHS Forums and appropriate industry networks as needed.
  • Develop and conduct environmental training and technical guidance to operations, project teams and contractors.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, spills, permit deviations, and regulatory inquiries. Collaborate with peers across the business to drive consistency, implement learnings, share best practices, and ensure a unified approach to EHS policy execution.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, Geology, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of progressive environmental compliance and construction related experience; experience supporting mission-critical facilities, industrial construction, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure development.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Stormwater/NPDES permitting, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements, and related environmental programs.

  • Experience managing environmental compliance across multiple projects, states, or regulatory jurisdictions.

  • Experience conducting environmental inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.

  • Experience supporting environmental permitting and regulatory agency interactions.

  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and reporting tools such as Power BI.

  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

  • Professional certifications such as:

    • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

    • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)

    • Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL)

  • Experience supporting Emergency Preparedness and Response programs.

  • Experience with Enhesa, Enablon, Procore and similar tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of Georgia environmental regulations.
  • Experience working with environmental NGOs, Tribes, Industry Associations and Community Members
  • Experience translating complex environmental requirements into practical guidance for operations, contractors, regulators, and executive leadership.
